Yosemite Bears Show A Taste For Minivans

From The Modesto Bee:

A study published this month in the Journal of Mammalogy shows bears break into minivans more often than any other vehicle. The study suggests minivans often are owned by families with children who spill food and drinks.

And, quite often, there's a stash of food in the vehicle.

"In my own family, we have a minivan and we have two children, so I understand how food gets into the vehicle," said Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman. "But it's not just food that attracts the bears. It's the odors, too."

Very interesting. It makes sense to me. What I don't see is if there is any way that people could be more careful. Kids will be kids and are bound to spill stuff in the car. Perhaps families could keep food out of the car and in the hotel room.

Maybe minivans have bigger windows. Maybe they just look more comfy for getting in and sprawling about. Maybe there are just more minivans taken on vacations.

Would a minivan with some leftover burger bags containing a few greasy french fry wrappers constitute "baiting"? Maybe bear hunters could try parking one along a Forest Service road where baiting is not legal (like WA State) and give it a whirl. LMAO
