11-Year-Old Idaho Boy Shoots Problem Bear Off Front Porch
By Dave Hurteau
From the Teton Valley News
An 11-year-old boy killed a bear at point-blank range last Wednesday night after it wouldn’t leave his family’s porch. The boy was at home with his younger sisters and after seeing the bear on the front porch and not being able to get it to leave, the boy retrieved a gun and killed the animal.
Fish and Game Conservation Officer Doug Peterson said the black bear had been a problem in the area. . . .
The boy and his family are not in any trouble, and Peterson said he issued them a permit to keep the bear.

That's a story he'll tell his friends about. He was the man of the house, gotta do what you gotta do!
What a fine young man!
I bet his parents are pound!
Chit PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only question I have is, if the bear was a "known" problem bear why was it not removed ?
NICE SHOOTING young man, NICE SHOOTING !
I guess they just needed a real man to step up and take care of the bear. Gotta protect the fort!
From what I read in my local news is that fish and game had been looking for that bear but had not caught up to it yet. Nice that they let the kid keep it.
Awsome!!!! Glad it turned out good...could have been a whole different story if the antis ever get their way...they forget some of us still live in places where guns are tools for good, and teaching your kids the proper usage of firearms is a valuable part of life.
what a stupid boy to shoot a bear without parents around or permission
I WOULD HAVE TO REWARD MY SON FOR THINKING OF HIS AND HIS SIBLINGS SAFETY NOT IF HE HAD PERMISSION OR NOT...
awesome!
You go kid!Thinkin' about your siblings,no matter how much they might bug ya' is the brave thing to do.
He'll have to go bear hunting at the place where they bug peple at Lucky Peak.I see them critters all the time up there.
i have bears in my front yard stirring up havoc all the time. lucky kid.
That's how we raise 'em in Idaho! Get 'er done son!
Solid work fella! Way to step up and protect your family!
Good Boy! Protecting his home and family he deserves a medal along with bear meat for supper (have the young man eat the bears heart, he deserves that bears spirit power). Mom and dad might want to sell the gall bladder to a chinese pharmacist, then use the money to get that young man his own .22. He deserves it. He should get a claw to wear as well, this big medicine!
That's really sweet!
great job protect your family you did the right thing

Wow, at that age I was barely able to decide what clothes I wore for the day. I could not imagine anything like that. Two thumbs up little dude

Exactly why are you on this web-site?
i hope he aimed at his head.good goin man, i might need u around my cabin up in colorado, just incase a bear trys to break in.hell most 11 year olds dont even know how to hold a gun, much less walk up to a BEAR and bust him.
Atleast the young man did the right thing and protected his younger family members.
well, I think if I was in the same position that bear would've probably taken a shot or two of grouse shells in the keester and then we'll see if it comes back. nothing wrong with killing though, if the dnr is okay with it I'm okay with it.
Darn kid! Took me most of my adult hunting life to just SEE a bear let alone kill one! He took his first at 11 years old!..lucky little squirt!
GOOD SHOOTING KID!!
Kudos to his fine parents, or whomever, taught that boy about handling firearms properly!
...I gotta move out west!!
