Video Report: Arizona Man Strangles Attacking Bobcat
By Dave Hurteau
From the AZfamily.com:
[James] Gruver says the minute he made eye contact with the bobcat, it pounced. . . .
Gruver says he was, “Holding him with all the strength I had. There was nobody there to help me and it was either me or the cat."
Gruver wound up suffocating and killing the bobcat. He still has several scratches on his arm but says he is just happy he survived.

holy smokes im glad im not in arizona right now! that would be terrifying. even if the cat was sick and weak thats still one tough old boy.
I just skinned a bobcat last month and I couldn't imagine trying to choke the life outta one of those guys! they have such extreme musculature!
I'd say Mr. Gruver is one tough, lucky S.O.B. I've seen people get torn up worse by a house cat let alone a Bobcat. Bad pussycat Bad!
I wonder what Pink would have done? I'm sure her PETA views would have went right out the window! I wonder if she would have shown the attacking cat her PETA card?
Wow, I wouldn't expect that. That is just crazy.
this guy is the man, glad he is ok
Like Sampson and the Lion (but with an older protagonist and a smaller cat). What a tale for the kids!
Tough old coot,... well done. Knocking the pussy dead, so to speak.
That would be hard, those things have really stout necks!
damn.
Well id get it mounted and tell everyone who asks i killed it with my bare hands... how many people can say that!
if this happened to me no body would believe me even tho I have similar stories
The really bad part, although there is no mention of it, is the rabies shots he will have to endure due to the incident.
WOW! That is one tough dude!
@Jerry A. :he may not have to take rabies shots because if you have the animal dead or alive they can tell you if it has rabies or not, if it doesn't you do not have to take any shots. This must have taken some real strength, just imagine trying to do this to a rottweiler.
Pretty tough old guy. If he has to get the shots, it's something like 16 shots in the stomach
I had a large bobcat check me out this past fall while I was deer hunting. I saw it sniffing the ground about 150 yards in front of me. It appeared to be as large as my male springer spaniel-- he weighs about 50 pounds.
It saw me creeping towards it and ran into the woods only to reappear a few minutes later about 50 feet away and behind me. I never thought I was in any danger as I had my trusty 30:06 with 165 grain winchesters in the mag. However I'll be extra wary if I come into contact with another one after this gentleman's hairy experience. After all a bobcat can and will kill deer!!! He's one tuff son of a gun and lucky to be telling his story!
