University Gun Ban Ends Hunting On Popular Lake

From NewsOK:

Bobby Moore was disappointed after learning he can no longer participate in duck hunting at Langston Lake. . . .

"I don’t quite understand the reasoning behind it, but I don’t like it one bit,” Moore said. . . .

The decision [to prohibit hunting at the lake] was made to comply with the university’s effort to enforce a zero-tolerance policy for firearms, drugs and alcohol, according to a university statement.

Hunting has been allowed at Langston Lake for more than 40 years.

Zero-Tolerance is quickly becoming a catch-phrase for "anti-gun" & "anti-hunting."

I'm of the opinion that State DNRs are one the only suitable public custodians for land left: metroparks, schools, universities all have an anti-hunting agenda that I can't stomach.

No hunt!

No support for the University!

Individuals acting overzealously at its finest!

How can someone so smart be so stupid!

This is just another victory for those people who have never touched a gun and yet think they know everything about them. They seem to think that just holding a gun transforms the bearer into a blood thirsty murderer. The students there need to do everything reasonably possible to reverse this ignorant decision. (I'm willing to bet that in the 40 years hunting was allowed nobody finished off their limit on ducks and then decided to go limit out on humans too.)

Private property. Their business, and the reaction to it will be their problem. I suspect there's alot of alumni with fond memories of duck hunting on that little goldfish pond that won't send any more charitable contributions.

Common sense is becoming a thing of the past. Sad that the people of this university don't use their heads and look at facts before they make a stupid decision like this.

I am truly dismayed that this happened in Oklahoma. I guess liberalism can creep in anywhere, and rear it's ugly head when and where it is least expected. I think Clay Cooper has the right idea.

All these comments are valid, and we all have a right to be concerned. Right now this is up to area hunters and wildlife enthusiasts to begin a campaign to turn this around...with the petition support of the rest of us across the country, and an "alumni" poll. The ONLY way to fight anti-hunting nonsense is to take them head-on, fiercely, calmly, intelligently. The outdoors community is larger...and we can be louder. "Zero Tolerance" works both ways...and I suggest we 'steal' their new banner and begin demanding "Zero Tolerance" for anti-hunting, anti-wildlife stupidity and ridiculous rhetoric. Anti's know how to network their little friends, 'pay' celebrities to do their talking for them, and hold candlelight vigils to sing songs for all the innocent little creatures of the world. If we just shake our heads and turn away, they will win when decisions have to be made. The ONLY way to shut them up is to force them to show how uninformed and inexperienced they truly are.

It's up to the Hunters, Students that enjoy the outdoors and surrounding residents and like many have said Alumni and maybe even the town council to challenge this issue and also contact the State Reps and Governor.

I'm so sick of people wanting to ban guns, without guns America wouldn't be a country right now, and they actually think they will stop crime if they do ban them, but they're criminals and they will find other ways to get there hands on them, it won't make a difference.
