Summer Buck Battles
We all know that bucks fight. But most of us associate those battles with the rut-related brawls of fall. Truth is, bucks are working out dominance issues year-round; indeed, biologists feel that the pecking orders established when bucks are in summer bachelor groups save deer from wasting energy by engaging in non-stop brawling during the breeding season.
Obviously, summertime bucks are in full velvet, their antlers both sensitive and fragile. But antlers aren’t the only weapon bucks possess. As the above video illustrates, bucks are as adept at boxing as they are brawling!

That's the way does "fight". Pretty cool vidio though.
They definitely had their dukes up!
I even heard one grunt at 7-seconds.
Their bellies looked full, they must be near a good food source.
Wow! Looks like they are still in velvet, which might explain why they are fighting like that. Wouldn't want an 8 foot tall 180 pound animal with sharp hooves slashing at me.
Good thing the season starts after the velvet normally sheds, or we'd have to simulate fights with hooves instead of just antlers to call them in.
They look pretty goofy. It's fun to see the mature does beat on young bucks like this.
I see that where deer densities are heavy like around a food sources. Still neat to watch.
that ain't no joke . my buddy's wife got throttled like that when she was a kid , by a doe when she tried to remove the does fawn from a fence it got tangled in . the does hooves cut her up and the force of the attack ended up pushing a strand of barbed wire through her leg . she spent a week in the hospital over it .
Looks like two nice bucks that will be great to harvest in a year or two.
I'd like to see the Brit boys that reportedly stamped the fawn to death take on one of these bad boys. Now that would be justice!
This one has been around for at least a year or two. Would like to know the story on these, as well as who shot it and how it can be posted all over the Internet with no attribution. Is anything "Youtube" fair game?
I will not lie. I do not get out in the woods as much as I would like, and because of that I never get to see these kind of things, and I appreciate the way that F&S posts these for people like myself to be able to see. It is a cool video, after all.
Nate
thats pretty cool. they were right in his front yard.
I seen a couple of small bucks do this about a week ago! It looks so awkward and just plain weird. I like it though... cool video!
