Bass Fishing

What soft plastic do you use?

Uploaded on July 18, 2009

What soft plastic do you use the most? Worm, lizard, grub, minnow, or something else? Also what brand and colors do you have the most success with? This info will help a lot of us who don't have the money to try a lot of things out. We budget fishermen can spend our hard earned dough wisely.

I use twister tail grubs in ponds. They seem to work well. I've caught some nice 15 in. bass on them. I don't remember what brand the are. I have orange and green. The bottoms are a yellow color. The orange seems to work better than the green, but the water in the pond is murky so that might have something to do with it.

3" Slider Bass Grub. This has the typical round grub body, but it has a "shad tail" or "boottail" rather than a curly tail. It is deadly on light tackle for large numbers of average-sized smallmouth. Available in 19 colors including solids, glitters, 5 firetails, and 1 core shot.

Zoom Brush Hogs
Chompers Creature Bait
Yum Creature Baits
Creme Worms
Mister Twister Worms
Tikki Sticks and Tikki Crawdudes
Tikki Snakes

I use a lot of tube baits as well, creme makes a super heavy tube that is awesome.

You mentioned a tight budget, I take worms that get torn and damaged and recycle them. I create simple creature baits by burning the ends of the torn baits to creature creature baits.

One quick way is to take a few worms and put the back half of 3-4 other worms and make it into a star pattern or an X shape, just rig it wacky style or with a a wide gap hook.

You never run out of baits this way, they wont hold up for a long time, but in a crunch or when money is tight pull out your old stuff and create a few baits. All you need is a cigarette lighter or a little butane pen torch and you can make baits all day long.

Hope this helps a bit.

2" spin tail any body color with chartruese green tail, 2" tubes red, black, or blue body with white or green trailers, 2" paddles bugs chartruese green, white, brown with silver spec. I have found the dark green and black with silver spec paddle bug does not work quite as well as the others.

Berkley Gulp. 5" worms-shaky or finese tail. BECAUSE THEY DON'T KILL FISH LIKE PLASTIC WORMS DO!! Gulp are biodegradable and will not block up a fish's digestive tract.

My favorite rubber lure is a long pink trick worm made by Zoom. I have cought all types of bass. I have also had so many big hits. After about one or two hits it is so torn up that it falls of my hook. Thats how hard they hit.

My single most favorite and productive is a motor oil colored paddle tail worm from Predator Worms in CA... they stopped making worms years ago, and I had bought these about 13 years ago now. These things are amazingly supple, and have great play. Maybe due to the age, you never know.

Of the newer stuff, the good old sluggo in green with glitter, and tikki sticks.
