Bass Fishing

When the Bass are not Biting

Uploaded on September 10, 2009

I need some suggestions as to what should I do when bass just refuse to bite. I fish on a small lake with little cover. Also, the weather I usually fish is sunny with some clouds and around 80 degree temperatures during the day followed by some rain in the afternoon. I usually fish with worms but also throw in the occasional swim bait. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Once in a while I can force a bite mid-day with an argessive top water attack. Try a Buzz frog, Buzz bait, or Heddon Zara Spook.

You can try the top but if that doesn't work try carolina rig. My favorite is carolina rigged lizzard. Depending on the depth of water a 1oz. should do the trick. obviously you can increase or decrease the weight according to the rate of fall that you wish to achieve. good luck

Downsize your baits if the bite slows or stops, and sometimes you can coax less aggressive fish into biting.

Also, keep in mind that water visibility changes a bit with changing light conditions, so you might need to go to a more natural colored bait when the sun is high in the sky, whereas a brighter color might work at dawn/dusk.

Something else worth trying is live bait. If you are going after bass, then catching some really small bream, big minnows, crawfish, etc. could be an effective tactic. You stand a bigger chance of catching other fish species then, too.

Try using a drop shot. I posted several new videos on this for free at my site. http://delawaretrophybass.com

No matter the water temperature, there will be bass in shallow cover. Flippin and pitchin are going to produce no matter what, they always have. So if your having trouble getting a bite I'd recommend this tactic. Also expirement with a shakey head on the finesse end of things.
