Bass Fishing

Summary:
State wildlife workers want to raise basic hunting and fishing license fees by 34 percent, in part because of lost revenues caused by last summer's widespread flooding.
"We had fewer people hunting, fishing and camping this year," said Ken Herring, the state's conservation and recreation administrator. "Our pheasant population was severely hit by the long winter and wet spring. We had parks closed during the peak camping season. It just was not a good year."
(My opinion)
I don't think this is a great idea. I know Iowa got hit hard with floods etc. but just because we had one bad year does not mean we need to raise the prices of all license fees etc astronomically the next year. This smells like what the food/goods prices have been doing the last year or so as gas prices went through the roof!!!

Iowa was on my list for this year but a 34% hike? You can count this out of state hunter OUT! It’s not the licenses alone that brings in the revenue
That is a hefty increase that will keep many from doing what they love.

I have hunted Iowa as a nonresident since 1999. Back then a buck tag was around $150 total, then a couple years after that the price more than doubled. Now it's even higher, because when you apply as a nonresident for a buck tag (which is all I want) they make you buy a doe tag too. The doe tag is something like $100 tacked on, so now the price is the better part of $500. This is getting ridiculous for the average Joe to hunt these states. Not to mention, I can get all the doe tags I need in my state, so why do I want to spend $100 out of state to shoot a doe. Now they are talking a 34% increase. Enough is enough.
You'd think they'd realize the economy doesn't just effect them. A 34% hike will keep many from buying a licence that would have otherwise.
Sounds like drying off with a wet towel to me.
Can we say Knee jerk reaction? Yes we had severe flooding, yes Pheasant numbers are down, but why hit sportsmen and women? I work for a very large farm and we were hit hard by inclement weather will thje revenues from this proposed hike help my employer? NOPE thats what we have crop insurance for.We also have a thirteen thousand head feed lot. We didn't just lose a cash crop we lost a portion of our feed this was a big hit, but are we crying? no we just used some of the corn we would have sold to supplemen the state of Iowa seems to see license fees as a means of filling the coffers which is a shame. Just another piece of evidence that shows how important this money from sportsmen/women is to the state. Still you have to wonder why they are considering putting the squeeze on us? there are other ways to aquire the funding for repairs. I will still purchase my license regardless but 34%?????? Iowa has raised our fuel taxes and upped regiseration fees on Pick-ups(and only pick-ups if you buy a pick-up the fee is like $180) it feels like Iowa is looking to farmers and sportsmen to bail them out....what about everybody else? why just "country folk"? what a sad scary world we live in....
