I would have to say plastic worms. I catch more big bass with them. Especially Berkely Gulp worms
Poppers on a fly rod, or streamers.
plastic minnows by zoom i have caught a 8 pounder with them on light tackle.
A big fan spinners tossed with a baitcaster. They usually fit the bill for me. Make sure to pick a skirt that fits the water clarity though, it makes a big difference.
Slow sinking, unweighted power worms next to submerged structure. Or, I love casting damsel flies into top cover like lily pads.
Weightless worm always does the trick for me, when the bite is really tough I will drop down to a 4" ring worm or senko style worm. It always produces.
Various bugs and poppers on a fly rod do it for me for being the most fun, but I also like the weightless-worm thing. I guess I'd have to say that part of what makes bass fishing so much fun is that there are so many ways to go about it. It's all fishing, and it's all good.
Probably, Texas rigged lizards during spawn caught more fish on this than anything else. Although i did catch 7 small largemouths one summer night on a jig and pig.
topwaterbaits for me
Another that really produces for me is to use a jig and trailer combo, a standard is a blue and black with a craw trailer.
Pitching a baby brush hog in logs and treetops.
i like to use buzzbaits at night in ponds. i have caught alot of fish between 3 to 5 pounds throwing across the pond or over a shallow ledge.
Topwater. There is nothing like a bass (or any fish for that matter) slamming a topwater bait.
Soft plastics are a very very close second.
I'd have to go with topwater here as well. Soft plastics can almost always land you a few even on an off day, and you don't have to be a brain to throw a word in the water and jerk it around, but there's nothing like doing battle on top, especially with smally's. Mastering different techniques with different lures for different times of the day and year can keep you occupied, and frustrated all year long, but the rewards are well worth it if you happen to whack a giant.
I have done best with either red rubber worms or senkos jiged slowly across the bottom. Either texas rigged or wacky.
popers are also good
spinner baits and frogs in cover
top water smallmouth with the fly rod
Rebel Crawdad off submerged rocky points
Plastic worm on a weedless hook.
topwaters are awesome. seeing fish jump out to get the lure is so exciting
