What is you're surf rod?

Uploaded on June 30, 2009

What rod do you like for surf fishing? (Cermele? really want to hear this, I was a striper fisherman when I lived in Cali)

Mine is a St. Croix Triumph 15' rod (medium heavy)

with a Van Staal spinning reel (with bail) and 30# test power pro braid.

Used it for flinging lures to stripers and shark (with 50# braid)

Its now buried in a storage room with all my surf plugs weights, leaders, ect. as surf is not very common around Illinois, although it comes out now and then for Kings in lake Michigan or carp.

Depends....
16' Lamiglas graphite rod with Cannon line release, Shimano SA8000FE Sustain spinning reel filled with Fireline braid for big water and big weights. Excellent balance for launching baits out to where the big fish are holding.
12' Lamiglas graphite rod with Cannon line release, Shimano STL3000FD Stella spinning reel filled with Fireline braid for near shore channels and Jetty.
9.5 Lamiglas graphite rod, Shimano SA2500FE Sustain spinning reel filled with Spiderwire braid for flinging plugs, lures, and jigs along the Jetty or bouncing light baits for Redtail.
Most common rig is tipping the bitter end of the line with 3 - 6' of Seaguar fluorocarbon tied off into a 'fish finder rig'.
