Trout Fishing

Provo River

Uploaded on March 29, 2009

I am going to the summer semester at BYU this summer and cannot bear to spend a summer without fishing. I hear that the Provo River is within walking distance of campus. My dad said that when he went to BYU the Provo fished pretty well. Does anyone know if the Lower Provo is any good during the summer these days? I am planning on just fishing a worm on a snell rig.

Gawd... I fished the lower and upper a lot when at U of U... over 40 yrs ago.

I met 3 guides from SLC several yrs ago (1999 or 2000) up in Ketchum, ID. They reported that things were good.

I always did well on the upper sections, above Kamas. THe Weber was also great up there.

Lower Provo is fished pretty hard and the water is rather warm. Up in Provo Canyon the fishing is much better because of strict regs. The middle and upper stretches are my favorite, especially above Jordanelle, give that a try. It is a heavily fished river so for the best success you will want to hike a bit.
