i aint sure about much in salt water, but I wouldnt buy anything ove 50 bucks on a rod/reel combo cuz you will probly break your first. Everybody does.Ive been deep sea fishin a few times, and always had the best luck with live bait such as shrim or squid. Ask around at local bait shops.

I don't know much about deep-sea fishing, but for freshwater I use the zebco 30-bite alert. the drag is exeptional and runs very smooth. It costs 25 bucks and works great. I don't use the bite alert, because I didn't buy it for that. As for line, Use Sufix performance braid, at 20 ib. because you can put on 150 yards, and the stuff is phenonimal. as for a rod, I use a graphite rod ( forgot name of it right now, but it's voltaeus or something like that). The combo works very well together, and should only cost around 75 bucks for the whle thing.
