Savage Arms .270 "ready to shoot out of the box"

Uploaded on July 02, 2009

I was wondering what the consensus is for or against the rifles that Savage Arms are putting out now that are quote "ready to fire out of the box". My wife bought me a .270 two years ago for my birthday that has the wooden stock with the thumbhole grip. It is one of the nicest guns I have shot to date, plus it was pretty well right on out of the box.

i don't see what you're getting to..you mean accurate out of the box? in my opinion it's not really that big of a deal if it's ready out of the box or not because usually those guns come with crappy scopes and i would rather top it with a leupold and sight it in myself. whether it's ready out of the box or not, you can sure make it accurate by yourself. remington 770 is accurate out of the box. they boresight them i believe. but yeah like i was saying, you can make a gun accurate. alls it takes is some sighting in at the range.

I understand that it takes some time and that the scopes they send aren't the best, but with very limitted funds to work with, I'll take what I can get. What can you recommend in affordable scopes?

Nikon Buckmaster or burris fullfield II scopes might be the most bang for the buck out there now, probably Nikon first.

I can back up the Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X40. Great scope. Nothing fancy, just bright, sharp, precise, and solid. Top a Marlin X series rifle with it, and you can have a very accurate combo for not much over 500 bucks.

I don't think you even need to go as high as the Buckmaster scope, I have several Nikon Prostaff scopes and they are excellent for the money, about $150. If you really want a bargain and a good scope the Banner series from Bushnell is probably the best thing you can buy for under $100(3-9x40).

Savage has a long forged reputation of being very accurrate affordable (ugly)production rifles. I love mine, but i't 35 years old. Todays Savages live up to this reputation I'VE HEARD. As far as accurate right out of the box, i hope novices don't think this claim can take the place of range-time and proper sighting in. I've seen guys buying rifles at 9pm the eve of rifle season. Scary.
