Compound bows are almost like shooting a rifle. It has a trigger and a sight. Traditional archers are of a special kind in my opinion.

i agree. Recurve archers and their own breed but all a crossbow is is a compound turned sideways.

A crossbow is not as hard as a compound you dont have to come to full draw and hold it if the deer stops and you dont have a shot. I dont have a problem with crossbows but the deer taken by them should be scored in there own class.

A lot of states regulate Cross Bows to the handicap. I think that they should allow the use of a Cross Bow for women and children. Also for male adults who can't pull the required poundage on a reqular bow. This will allow a lot more people to enjoy hunting. Personally, I would allow the Crossbow to be used as a legal weapon by anyone for hunting.

it is not cheating, but it is not the same...it (crossbow) is ready and cocked, point, shoot..bow, you must pull back, shoot

they are now represented in their own column as far as how it was taken..

I see nothing wrong, if legal, use what you can.

I can understand having the option of a cross bow for a person unable to pull the minimum poundage, 40lbs usually, if the person is limited by a disability. Otherwise, getting ready for hunting includes getting into shape. When my daughter started bow hunting with me she was about 4' 5 - 6" tall, but still practiced so she could pull 40# consistently and accurately. There should be a cross bow season that would run concurrently with black powder since the limits and advantages are similar.

the Crossbow is not the same as the compound bow but should not be put down by any true archer. any person you takes the time to learn his/her bow and shoot it consistently and accurately should be welcomed in to the sport back in the late S and early S i would have told you that in no way should there be crossbow hunting. I have had to use a crossbow because of shoulder and wrist injury( due to being hit by a drunk driver) I am just now working them back to be able to pull 40 lbs after 13 years and 6 operations. I say all the more in the woods all the better for sportmans and sportamns rights

dan I can see your points? I dont know..it may hamper folks getting out anyway..but it is easier in my eyes as well.. not just for people that can't pull at moments notice..

You don't have to draw the bow back when the animal is in range, you can use scopes, you hold and shoot them like a rifle. It is defantly not bow hunting, it's in a category of itself. I would use a compound over a crossbow any day. No offence but it just isn't the same as bow hunting, but it's a lot more sporting than using a rifle. I think it's a mix between slug gun hunting and bow hunting. I dont see a prolbem with it, but it's not bow hunting.

I just finished assembling my Excaliber Equinox crossbow...and they may have the advantage of not having to draw and hold but they seem alot heavier to hold up(Once you install scope and quiver). As far as having a preceived advanatage in hunting, everything I have read points to reg bow users harvesting more deer roughly 51% (reg bow) to 49% (crossbows). Also on average Cross bow Hunters tend to be a little older than reg bow users. In Ontario crossbows have been in use for over 30 years. More or less I would say they both have certain advantages and disadvantages over each other. So shoot what you brung and have fun!
