If it's "flooded" try a canoe to get to them, other wise it's "hip boot" time.
Good Luck and Good Hunting !

It seems all the bucks in my area are in swampy stuff like you mention. Big O offers good advice. These bucks will not fall to lazy hunters. Good luck!

If you absolutely can't access it, try doe scent if its near the rut. This will allow you to stay out of their core area and play their weakness to your benefit. Catch the wind right, and as with any situation control your scent.

i'm with BigO. try a canoe/small flat bottom or otherwise use waders or hip boots. i know in ohio that its legal to shoot game from a boat...

Good ideas from above. However, I hunt the same same type of terrain in MI. of the 140 acres I hunt 36 of it is a cattail marsh with the same thick high spots. Going after them on foot will leave you empty handed. There is no way to approach them on foot. The cattails are too loud and thick to walk in. Set a stand high in a tree. I'm talking like 25-30 ft. up and make sure it is downwind on the edge of the swamp. Try calling, but also hunt all day. Most of these deer will move in their bedding area during mid-day and you might be able to squeeze a shot into the marsh. Good luck!

I know this is from a long time ago.. but ppl looking at it right now.. rootju is right forsure!!! thats the one of the best ways. but ive started calling for the last 2 years. and finally figured out how to hunt these swamp bucks. ( minnesota style ) and i use a ground blind and find the best pine tree i can to set up under. maybe even use brush to set up against it if it isn't a low branch tree. now early bow season, like opener and 2-3 weeks after. calls n piss are pointless... but the deer arn't settling down either. now that it is getting into the season. still a month away from rifle. i was walking around and found a prime area. it was swamp. 80 yards through alot of thick little brush was a field on the other side. SIGN EVERYWHERE... scat. rubs. and 2 scrapes. tells me sumthing is starting... and seeing it b4 any time it starts real early. is cuz theres too many bucks... what do they want. THE SWAMP next to there food... now im set up found my pine tree and had to put brush around it... but on a cow path out of the swamp that u could see went right to the field... closest i could get was 45 yards... n this is really when scent cover is a NEED TO HAVE thing.. if u don't. don't even get in there.. cuz ur wasting ur hard work and time spent finding it. but i used my grunt call.. a young buck grunt... right at the beginning if not pre mature rut... three grunts every 15 min. u here sumthing... give it six or seven continuous grunts. if it doesn't bring something running too u. wait another ten min. give it ur three grunts again. if u had a doe in estrus call... use that once every 45 min. to an hr.. they may have left there swamp for a min. n if u call extra amounts... it will make them ignore anything u say... best if u can leave ur blind there. and use one complete different way from wut they are using to get there... and if ur not dedicated to sitting all day then ur not gunna get em... ive shot a 12 pt and 17 pt both out of swamps. both about this time. both using a young buck grunt! both the last yr and last night(*cuz i learnd to call!!) and most important. both using HUNTING patients. ALL day hunting... if u cant get them goin out of there obvious exit... move down for a couple days.. theres more than one spot they go in. n out.. but best believe they do not want ANY little buck coming around and bringing something to them to hurt em... and when they come to push em away when its just u trickin em to think its a young buck........ thats when u push ur arrow to him! really learn the use of calls. don't be afraid to use it... either way u sound like a deer. just trial and error... n i don't know all the calls either... i wont for a long time.. but ive figured out that 3 calls gets them really curious. during rut. and when u see em. 6-7 grunts it brings em in EVERY time. has not failed! if i hear sumthing in the swamp. i do that. if theres a deer. its coming to me... i want to learn the wheeze call too becuz thats SO effective!! my besst advice for swamp hunting is get in and ACT like a deer!! it takes time to learn.. but big bucks are big for a reason! get in there and bring em to u. waiting isn't alwayz the key. obviously not running at em with a pan either. but bring em to u!! throw a salt block out too. GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helps!!
