In Central WI Adams county to be exact our deer count is way down. Our group of 11 got two small bucks. I only saw 2 does all of opening weekend. Thank the DNR and CWD for low numbers
Well Up here in Burnett County I think overall the season has been far better than last. Our group started out great seeing at least 2 or 3 deer a night not to mention a few wall mounters during bow season, we all had our chances and it turned out great. Now that gun season has started the deer seem to be moving so much because of pressure, it has been hard to pattern them. I think the DNR is doing an outstanding job last year there was lots of complaining about low numbers, so this year they eliminated the early doe season, and charged 3x more for extra tags. I think what they are doing will have a positive impact.
Worst hunting season in years for us... We hunted hard only to see 1 fork horn. Thank the DNR for the horrible hunting
My hunting part consists of about 10 people. We hunt the same private land near Oconto Falls every year and usually have no problems pulling out about 5 or 6 bucks, and as many does as we would like (we dont usually shoot does). This year, we got 2 bucks opening moring (6, and 8 pointers), and passed on about 2 dozen does. From then on, we saw fewer and fewer deer. In the end, wewound up taking a small doe for a total of 3 deer.
Deer numbers as far as we can tell are way down. The majority of people I've talked to who combined hunt all over northeastern WI have seen very few deer, and have taken only a handful. Sad deer season...
What really worries me is next year. If this year was slow, what's next year gonna be like? Especially since most of my neibors hunt by the "if it's brown it's down" philosophy. Im betting next year will be even worse if we can't convice the DNR to stop decimating the state's deer herd.
I think next year will depend on a few things...
1. Hunter managment. Hopefully hunters can and will exercise caution when taking does if their areas population is down.
2. Winter conditions. From what I've read, the deer herd had it pretty rough these last two winters. We'll see what this winter has in store.
3. Predation. Last I checked, estimates on fawn survivability was way down due to weather, and predation. I plan on doing my fair share of coyote hunting this winter to do my small part! ;)
Just my brief thoughts...

In Sauk County nobody in my family shot a deer this year. Most of them never saw a deer. Supposedly the neighbors were also struggling.
the dnr shouldnt control the deer we should i saw 2 does thats it no one i no got a deer and i live in western wi
I didn't see a buck all gun season.
i missed a dandy in bow season though...
I saw one buck (middle of the road in broad daylight) and no does all season. Northern Chippewa county near Holcombe.
I've got a 10 pointer and a good size doe.
you all are great wi hunters
1 stop shooting does
2 stop predatation (wolves,coyotes)
3 provide enough food
no one i know got a deer except 1 person
western wi
yeah my cousin shot his first deer a 3point and my uncles friend shot a dandy busted rack buck we have trial cam pics of him as a 10 point we think he got locked up and broke it off. That was in shawano county i left there on the monday of season saw a monster buck cross the road and stand in crp and stair at me.
went home to marinette county to hunt and still did not see a deer and i hunted everyday morning or night or both only heard a handful of shots a day... deer #s are down due to over hunting by my house. Also the clear cutting that took place a few years back but as soon as this undergrowth grows back these woods will be crawling with deer if the damage isn't permanent which is hard to say for such a resilient animal populations could explode any year. i think if you want to see more deer take this time right now to kill some predators and plant food plots. APPLY FOR BEAR TAGS! i know they take awhile but bears can kill a fawn a day in the spring.
