I'd take a photo. Prolly wouldnt shoot it.
You would get a big fat ticket in Tennessee for killing one!
there is no way i would shoot one but you better believe that i would shoot it hundreds of times with the camera
its bad karma to shoot an albino deer. what about the other side of the spectrum, would you shoot a black deer?
I probably would shoot him or her depending if it is a nice deer. Like if it was a fawn or a spike i wouldn't shoot it i would just take a good picture of it.
Ya because how many times do you see one. Down in Carey Ohio there is a pieball deer but I think he is gone because I aint seen him.
Illegal in Tennessee
No. not a truly white deer. I have taken a piebald.
Oh, shooting a white deer or buffalo is certain to bring forth bad mojo!
ill shoot it only if I planned on getting a full mount to show it off
I might, not sure until the shot presents.
No an albino deer is very unique.
i wouldn't shoot it just because that's a really cool deal having that on your land, and that'd make for some good photography but i wouldn't shoot it, even though i'd be tempted.
i agree with lawman328
i was told by a Va. game bio. that they are bad for the heard and most of the time dont live more than 2 years i have shot one and would shoot more because here in Va. if you see one than for the next few years we see alot of half white or spotted deer
no. illegal in Mich.
bad luck around here
I imagin they taste just as good as the brown ones.
As Matt said; they are illegal to shoot here in Michigan. This topic has been discussed before, and I don't see why they shouldn't be hunted? Some, it's said, keep the Albino animal alive in the heard making them easier to find in the field. Biologically speaking, the Albino animal has an inferior genetic make-up and is weak for the heard. They NEED to be taken out!
If anything i would take a picture unless i needed meat in the freezer.
i agree with lawman328 it illegal to kill in tennessee
Get it out of the heard!!!!!!!
I would shoot it I have been told by wildlife bio. that they are a long shot to mate in the wild unless he is a mature buck(most would not make it to any great age they stand out to much in the woods) or as a doe every buck wants a piece no matter what she looks like( again they may not make it very long to easy to see in the woods a good target for any hunter) then there is the part where other deer shy away from them, maybe they know where the bullseye will be
I dont care what you guys do thats your desision. i just know that no matter what i wouldent shoot it because i was raised thinking that those were the animals of God
IMO all animals are animals of god and god put them here for us to eat them... But the native americans thougt it was bad luck to shoot any all white animal and thats some bad juju so i probably wouldnt shoot.
No I wouldn't shoot one, unless it was with the camera. I think they are very beatuifull animals.
Nope.
They already beat so many odds to make it to be an adult. Also, I would want more people to get a chance to see such a rare creature. That being said I would be a little cross if I passed one up and 2 days later some other hunter bagged it.
I wouldnt think twice about shooting an albino...it would make a beautiful full body mount, and very few people have a true albino mount in the first place.....most albinos only live 3-4 years and many are sterile....as for bad mojo,,naww I think getting a shot at a true albino would be a gift to a hunter not bad mojo, because with all the deer out there you were chosen to have the albino....
If it was a nice buck i'd shoot, but if it was a doe or small buck i'd shoot... but with a camera. P.S. I took a pic. of a white deer in cental Texas (look on profile) and someone told me it was a fallow deer. I would like some expert advice on what it is.
dead deer
bad terrible luck
It is legal in WV. I see alot of mounts of albino squirrels, raccons ,foxes and other small game. Why not deer ? The game biologist's office was down the hall from mine and we talked about this several times. We agreed that they are inferior deer and probably should be removed from the herd. If your old Indian traditions won't let you do it then let someone else do it. They don't live long which proves that they are not a very healthy deer. From my experience in the wildlife field I think we should remove them.
a recessive gene causes the lack of pigmentation, its not good for your deer herd to allow this deer to propagate. take'em
ya i would shoot one for sure cause they not natural and would be a hide to keep for life...
I'd shoot it. I mean how many people have shot an albino deer.
I do not believe in all of the superstitions pertaining to albino deer. I am going to have to see if harvesting an albino deer is legal to take in our state. If it is - and if I am lucky enough to see one - I would not hesitate to take one.
Albino deer have been here long before man,but it takes Mister Man to decide if this animal lives or dies. What is this bull crap about messing up the "HERD".When they are born they are going to be albanio or regular no mix.
I would in a heartbeat if it was legal. in SD I can but not Illinois. Albino in any animal is bad for the herd and needs to be removed. It is caused by genetic mutations that is not good. One it makes easy prey as deer lose their camoflouge, unless their is snow, than white will not attract solar heat. If deer were supposed to be white they would have evolved with it and it would be the standard but they are brown.
That's a DEAD DEER!!!
Never have, but I hunt for meat, so a deer is a deer. Long story short: yes I'd shoot it.
Never shoot white or piebald deer if you value your hunting success! At least that's what I have always been told. It's bad luck. Personally I wouldn't shoot it. Not that I necessarily believe in curses but its not worth the risk and I appreciate the animals ability to survive without its the normal camo. To me, its earned the right to live!
Does albinism affect the meat?
I will shoot a white deer if I see one while hunting. They taste just like the other ones and their genes are bad. End of story.
I am amazed that there are so many States that make it illegal to shoot an albino. I have hunted deer in many States and Canada for years and never seen a piebald or an albino deer, while hunting. I never seen a drop tine buck while hunting either. I have used trail cameras for two years. I have photos of two different piebalds in two different areas located over hundred miles away. If it was legal in the game laws and the albino/piebald has a large rack of antlers, then he is going down for the count, if he gives me that chance. Many Sportsmen Clubs will pay for the entire full mount if you donate the trophy to your Fish and Game Department. They have many offices and will display the mount for everyone to enjoy forever. Your name will be mention on the plaque next to the deer. It is better then your own trophy room, for a tiny group of friends and family to see.
I would. It'd make a great story and good mount.
I say no now, but when the time came I don't think I could pass.
And it would look great on my wall.
I would if i could, but it is illegal hear in Wisconsin. I would defiantely shoot a piebal deer though.
i bet they taste just as good as brown ones.
both of my grandfathers and my great grandfather would not shoot one. they said it was terrible luck. they also said that whoever shot one also died within 7 years. I have to say I would make the decision at the time the shot is presented.
