yea dude, not a hard one! First if its an option, next time ask him if he has permission. If not contact the land owner [in this case if its your family] Then tell a game warden. they will take care of him, since its a small area the guy shouldn't dare to come back again since it will be easy for him to get caught. Don't worry about it.

I've got my local game warden and police dispathcer phone numbers on my cell phone for this very purpose. Every year somebody steals a stand, a feeder, camera, etc. off my 800 acre lease. I've even found 10 pointer gut shot out of season on my place. Unfortunately way too many people have no respect for other people's land or equipment. Call the game warden.

On personal note, you might spend a little less time in stand and little more time on your spelling. It's quiver, "their" bow, field, criticized, climber, school and people.

An excellent response, with an increase in the proper use of the

Grammer and spelling notwithstanding, you've got a very good question. (But PLEASE ask your parents to consider sending you back to school, and whomever is teaching you spelling? Ask them to go back with you. Sorry to say that, you sound like a nice kid and all, but...) Anyway, rule one is BE SAFE. It will do you no good especially at your age to get into a confrontation with an armed stranger in the woods. These days, too many people are whack-jobs. I think you are best to do what some others have suggested - talk to the land owner and the warden. The warden alone should be able to help you handle this most safely and effectively.

This may not be the time or place for this but I'm going to say it any way and I don't care what you all think about it. I am not making excuses for the young man's spelling either. Making a suggestion (or begging) that this young man should go back to public school is not professional at all. I myself was home schooled and am in college. Please don't think that a public school education is any better than home schooling. I have met many public schoolers that couldn't spell, do math or talk with any kind of vocabulary. I personally had to score over 100 points higher on the SAT test than public schooled kids applying at the same college that I was accepted at. When you are home schooled, it is up to the individual as to how well you get educated and how seriously you take your education. I would venture to say it is the same way in public school as well.

Don't get intimidated. Get the game warden and the landowner involved and come up with a game plan with them involved. This is one of those things you'll face along the way in life. If this guy is having to resort to taking advantage of people, he'll wind up paying for it on down the line somewhere. You have the high moral ground here. This probably won't be the last time you have to stand up for something. This doesn't mean coming to blows with someone. This means getting smart.

Don't get intimidated by folks on this board either. If it wasn't for spell check a lot of them would be hukt on fonix, myself included.

I'm going to ignore all the English critics and move on to the issue at hand, because there's something important that still hasn't been said...

Please, please, please do not get so angry that you resort to setting traps or other violence towards this person. Although it can sometimes seem reasonable or justified, you CAN get in serious trouble for something like this.

At this point, his worst crime (legally speaking) is trespassing. The judge won't care about that if his foot is in a bear trap or something. I've heard of lots of people getting in serious trouble for stuff like this, and I'd hate to hear about you getting busted for being too aggressive in keeping someone off your hunting land.

If you notice him there again, try to find his vehicle and get license plate numbers. Don't flatten tires or bust windows...just get the plate :)

Good luck.

It is a sad day when you have to confront another hunter for not following the rules, but it happens. Be polite, and assume he is simply unaware of the laws and rules that you painstakingly are following. Inform him of the permission you have, and if he is argumentative, just wlak away and call the warden. best of luck, as this is something no hunter wants to have to encounter.

With shrinking hunting options, in this the new world, hunters are going to experience a wide range of hunter vs hunter conflicts. My old man killed a big mature bruiser shortly after someone drove a four wheeler pass his stand, the driver even stopped to chat, after they left the big boy showed himself and was shot. My choices to minimize frustrations over the season is out-hike folks on public lands, and hunt thick walk-in only areas of the deer lease. If everyone is trying to hunt the fringes of the same field, then problems will arise, come early and hunt harder friend. If someone is trespassing, then write down the plate number and tell an adult/ a warden.

As far as the jerk acting like he owns the land, talk to the land owner, and ask the warden to set up camp on the land. This sort of behavior is a prime example of why a lot of land owners will no longer allow people to hunt on their property. Maybe you could have your dad or another adult male with you next time. I took them down and left them a number to call. They got there stands back, but I haven't had a problem since. If a talk from the owner doesn't work you need to have it posted before a talk from the game warden can be effective. If the land isn't posted it is tough for the warden to issue a ticket.

Mostly good advice, let the landowner and the law take care of it. I hope you will continue to ask questions in the future when you need to know something. The old saying that the only stupid questions are the ones not asked, is true!
By the way, I had a neighbor who put a climbing stand on my property after I told him in conversation, that I'd seen some bucks in my woods. I found the stand one day and put a new shiny penny on it in a place that it wouldn't be unless put there. Soon the stand was gone and I have'nt seen one since. Not a word had to be said.
Unfortunately, I don't think a little hint like that will work in your case...good luck!

I ran into a very similar problem the past two seasons. I am lucky enough to be able to get out in the woods on fridays as well as mondays for four day weekends during hunting season. In the past two seasons I noticed that trespassers avoid the crowd. They had patterned our hunting habits to be the weekends and only bow and regular gun season. Well I ran into them a few times, always with climbers and always hiding their cars behind trees. so they couldn't be seen from a road. But they would only show up on fridays, and other days during the week, as well as the entire muzzleloader season. I spoke with the landowner and we had the game warden stake out the property a few times. I was also told (by the land lord) to call the authorities as soon as I see them again and take down their license plates, and if possible their back tag numbers. I suggest you put out a few well concealed trail cameras (with the flash off) if you are serious about catching these guys. Always be polite while in the woods though, because the last thing you want is to have a confrontation with someone with a loaded gun. Also, as noted before keep the game warden's number in your phone. It may seem like you are "snitching" on someone in your hunting fraternity, but in my eyes, anyone who breaks the law, disrespects other hunters, and is unethical in their ways, is not part of the brotherhood, and does not deserve favorable treatment. After getting a hefty fine and possibly their gear confiscated, you can be pretty sure they are going to move on to a place where they aren't running into as much trouble.

I don't see where the young man's grammar or spelling has anything to do with the question he asked. Most everyone has agreed to call the Conservation Officer and that is sound advice. Someone like that has a hard time understanding the common sense approach but a visit from the Officer will probably get the point across. Don't take the harsh comments about your school too serious. Some people say things before they think. Hang in there.

Honestly, leave the poor kid alone, and just answer his question. Listen just go to the game warden and tell him about your problem with this guy. It is his job to do something about it. If someone told me they were going to steal my tree stand I have a couple of my buddies check on my stand any day that I could not go out.

See if you could the land owner to take care of it. Hopefully it is your parents. I ran into a simalar problem with someone hanging tree stands on my property. I took them down and left them a number to call. They got there stands back, but I haven't had a problem since. If a talk from the owner doesn't work you need to have it posted before a talk from the game warden can be effective. If the land isn't posted it is tough for the warden to issue a ticket.

I agree with most people, you should get a warden or landowner involved. If you have permission you shouldn't have to worry about other people taking over. Good Luck
On another note how can people be so rude and subjective to a simple question. Doesn't matter who its asked by, answer what was asked.

Not to be rude, but maybe you should think about going back to regular school so you can learn to spell and proper usage of words

An excellent response, with an increase in the proper use of the
lingua terra this lad could present his case in a more proficient manner. Home school or not it is a shame to butcher the language of Hemingway, Ruark, and even Petzal.

Easy solution------bring spelling and grammar books TO the hunting stand. That way, the guy will never have the chance to hunt your property without you knowing AND you won't have to take so much flak the next time you write a post here!

if its your land, its your land. they have no right to be there, end of story. we have problems with people hunting on the farm without permission and our land up in central ohio. one of the places i hunt in central ohio is on our property line and ive thrown several people off our land. if they want to argue, call the game warden or sheriff.

You are the one who has permission to hunt; the jerk does not. He was just taking advantage of a kid. That's not fair. I hate it when young people are not respected and pushed around when they are in the right. I would report what happened to the landowner and ask what he or she wants you to do.

Will, you seem like a good kid, so don't be discouraged. Both the grammar and other situation can be improved. Maybe you'll find a better spot. Keep hitting the books though.
