Q:
For the last couple of years I have heard of two recently imported species of Asian carp that are rapidly growing in population in the Missouri River and in many states across the country... white amur or "grass carp" and the "big head". I recently went bow fishing for them. It was kind of shocking to see these relatively new species growing so rampantly in population but it was a blast. It was like stalking deer. The fish were big, averaging around 25 pounds but going as large as 40 pounds and averaging three to four feet in length. The meat was among the best I have eaten. I had it deep fried but in that form it tasted like grouper or snapper. Others cook them like lobster and say you can't tell them apart. Has anyone had any experience with these? What do you think of them?

If your talking about the new jumping species of carp I have lots of experience with them. They are in the Illinois river and infiltrating the Mississippi river. They are hazardous, can hurt you bad if hit by one. I'm told they are edible and may be harvested and fed to prisoners.
Jim that is the grass carp i believe. either way they are an invasive specie and should be eliminated from our water ways. although i think is to late for that ,they have taken to strong a hold already
The grow and reproduce rapidly and cause lots of problems. I have caught several of them before, they are hard fighters and will test you drag.
I have not eaten them before
-they are basically inedible and just destroy all the other populations in the river. there was a show about them on PBS a few weeks back.
Agreed with Jim in Mo and + 1 for you sir!!!
