Q:
Are the Motorola and Midland 2-way radios compatible? If I buy new Midland FRS/GMRS radios, will my friends with Motorolas be able to talk to me? Does anybody have a preference of one brand over the other? Thanks.

i have two sets of Motorola's and i like them . i am not to sure how the midland Motorola cross will work for you . i know on my motorola's i can block out non motorola radios if i want to . so it may work just fine . if your friends all have motorolas why not just get one of them and make it simple

If they can send/receive the same frequencies then they should. Just like cell phones, all different brands but they talk in the same language.

Some have "privacy codes" - the thing that cooner mentions that blocks non-Motorolas. As long as you don't have this feature on and you have radios that operate on the same band (FRS, GMRS) and are on the same channel (frequency), they will work.

Lol, If you want privacy, try a icon vhs radio, no one uses these in the woods.

To answer your questions, yes, yes and no. If you set your privacy codes to be the same, you should be able to talk to each other just fine. Be aware, out in the woods, ranges you can talk will decrease sharply due to short antennas on these little handhelds. In general, if you can see the person, you should be able to talk with him. Good luck

I have used both and did not have very good luck at all with the Midland. I definately prefer the Motorola Talkabout, it hasn't let me down yet!
