this question leaves alot to be asked. location, type of water, and type of fish targeted would help answer the question. original minnow shape in the gold always worked great in kansas. have better luck in the minnow shape in tiger stripe for walleye, the dt series in various colors depending on water color for large mouth.
I like the rapala husky jerk size 6 or 8 in glass blue minnow color. Great suspending action and it rattles. Have caught lots of largemouth bass from 1/4 pound to 3 pound on it. Really great lure reccomend it to everyone. It catches a lot of bass.
Beekeeper hit it on the head. I use the shad rap silver shad allot, if I had to go to a secret location and could only take one rapala I guess this would be it
Without a doubt, 11S is Floater is the best Rapala ever made! Tie an open loop so it will run true. Throw it, twitch it on top and reel in on a medium retreive...it is a numbers bait but will catch large bass too...don't know about walleye and other species but if I only could have one plug type lure and depended on fish to eat...you won't go hungry with this lure in your box...
A perch colored XR10 had caught me the most fish last year, but when you get down to it; as long as you have the right color combo you can catch fish on almost any style of Rapala.

I always caught the most fish on the original in gold. That was in Fla back in the sixties and 70's.

All qualifications aside...
Shad Rap = Perch pattern and Silver Shad Pattern
Floater = Silver pattern and gold pattern
Sinker = Silver pattern and gold pattern
One of these will fit about any situation...
I am a fan of the silver/black back model.

original silver/black I dont know the number but it is at least 4 inches in length.
but heck same model in all colors has always been in the box!
great question too!
I think the best model they have made was the original Floating minnow in silver and black, personally I love a perch shad rap.
Floating in silver black, and most importantly the jointed in silver/black....the jointed, slow retrieve twitching once in a while.....yup!

My first lure out of the box at a new location (confidence lure) is the F11, silver with black back original.
Husky Jerk in clear glass minnow is the lure that has caught me the most smallmouth and walleyes.
I like the Shad Rap, its a great all around lure.
The original gold model has never failed me!
