Q:
We hunters and anglers seem to accrue tools, materials, and equipment which promise to put an end to all frustrating things, and to make our day in the field and on the stream more enjoyable.
What have you purchased that ended up not being what you thought it was?
What have you got, that promised to be all, and ended up over promising and under delivering?

Generally, my frustration has been with shoes. Over the years, seems like I have bought a hundred pair that did not live up to expectations.
Springfield XD45 shoots low and left, told by both customer service and repair shop had to get a trigger job to fix the problem. They said I'm not the only one with this problem and I’ll bet there making a killing off of it!
When I was younger, I purchased a cheap pair of 10x50 binocs for pronghorn hunting...think I spent around $100.00...to make a long story short, I learned the hard way to always buy the most expensive glass a guy can afford...now that Im older and hopefully wiser, I research my gear much more carefully so Im usually not disappointed by the gear I buy...
Blood tracking light - no more effective than a strong white beam. Super-insulated outwear for sitting in treestands - toasty until the cold wind blew through.
My bigfoot/sasquatch call has never worked, not even once.
i would say my worst disappointment was the banjo minnow im talkin when they first came out i was like 13 or 14 years old i cut the neighbors grass and saved the money to order them and i didnt catch a single fish. but one thing i have ordered that lived up to what it said was the samurai shark knife sharpener thats thing works no more wet stones for me.
ohh yeah sometimes when i get the stuff to go fishing my dad will say HEY BOY YOU GOT THEM THERE BANJO MINNERS WITH YA.
gman,
Don't feel bad. I purchased TWO sets of Banjo Minnows. Never caught the first fish. Junk.
ishawooa,
Too funny!
I have never been satisfied with a pair of gloves. They all say they are warm and keep the wind off your fingers, but when November comes around, my hads are frozen stiff (even with two pairs on!) I guess I will just have to try 3 pairs.......
I'm usually happy with most purchases but I'm with Happy... I have many boots that have failed to live up to expectations. Usually, they just hurt my feet and I quit using them. I wish they would let you trek though the muck, rocks, water and climb a little before you had to commit to buying them.
Oh I forgot to mention... I paid a bloody fortune for those sleek stretchy long johns. Supposed to be super warm in the coldest weather and yet not get you hot when you walk... what crap... I threw mine away... they were always too tight and I about froze to death as soon as the temp dropped below 30 degrees.
Mostly clothes... jackets and long johns. Too heavy, too cold, too hot, not comfortable in shooting positions, etc.
I'm with Happy on the shoes. I wear size 12 EEE you don't find them in every shoe store.
I've rattled antlers many times and never called anything but a big hairy dude in.
Del,
Was it Bigfoot! LMAO
The first scope I ever bought was a real lemon. Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40. It was good the first couple years then it would not stay on target. Now I have a Leupold on my new rifle. It is awsome!
API tree climber.....the particular model I purchased did not live up to its billing. It was uncomfortable and worst of all, unsafe. Lesson learned.
