Q:
The invention of the rimfire cartridge may pre-date centerfire, from what I have been able to gather. Anybody know?

I beleive you are correct. The rimfire did come before the center-fire. Pretty interesting.

Correct, the original Henry rifle fired a 44 cal rimfire cartridge.
