I was a guide in Colo. but they are "closed" now due to the death of the owner.
I'd say go to Colo. due to the fact they have "more elk then 4 or 5 states combined" this was a quote from Colo D.O.W. though so take it for waht's it's worth.

Check Anchor Outfitting in Melville, MT. They have a website listed below. Good folks, great hunting. They are the only outfit I can personally recommend.

i've never hunted with an outfitter but I saw that depending what you are using to hunt september is the rut but it is bow season. Another good season is the last season when the elk come down into the valleys for the winter. I've always hunted in Meeker Colorado and always always see herds of elk. Ive gone in the first elk, first combined elk and mule deer, and i've gone second comined. I think the best season to hunt elk with a rifle is the first elk only season. Hope it Helps.
