It's just the same as with evrything else. You should aim right behind the shoulder about were the heart is .

I agree with hjohn429...Dont try and get fancy with your shot..behind the shoulder will take them down just fine..it might not be that movie scene "one shot instant drop" kill but it works

An old Field and Stream article said that the best place to shoot a moose is in the back of a truck. Does anyone remember the author of that one?

I would go behind the shoulder also, neck shots are too easy to mess up.

Moose are REAL BIG. and as such if they can't discern the source of there discomfort, they don't exactly flee- like they will if 20 wolves are chewing on them. Behind the shoulder, so you don't trash a bunch of meat. If he needs another, give one, they don't often bolt like whitetails etc, so you often have a chance for a second (uneccesary with a double lung/ heart hit) shot. The exception being when in proximity to water- then you'd better anchor him, unless you can haul a 1300 lb animal out of 6 feet of 50 degree water. the back of a truck is a great spot to shoot one by the way. 2.5 miles from the road across a mile of muskeg and 2 streams is not, but it usually is where i end up. strong like bull smart like tractor, you know?

My bull was facing me at 75 yards. Put the crosshairs at the base of his neck. Whem my 250 speer handload from a 350 rem mag hit he went down like he was poleaxed with a broken neck. With a side shot I would go for the lungs. If he was close to water the neck again but you gotta know where the bone is and hit that.

Most of the hunters up here shoot behind the front shoulder. I've never been drawn in the lottery but I've been in the shooting party 7 times now.

Never shot one but from what i've seen/heard, AWAY FROM THE WATER. Would be a safe bet.Either or, as I said, never shot one before.

Just up an embankment of a road or trail when you shoot quickly back up drop your tail gate and let it role in!

Buddy let me tell you something!

Before you pull that trigger, ask yourself how in the hell are you going to get it out! It takes 3 big guys to lift a hind quarter to place it on a ATV so go figure and don’t forget the shoe string to tie off the esophagus to prevent the stomach contents gurgitating all over the place during butchering!
