I like tpo use Primos mouth calls, that way I can still call and hold the gun.
Depend on the person using it .Some people can't handle a diagphram call .For a beginner a good box or slate call is good to start with.Good luck with the birds
Nearly all the calls out there are good IF YOU LEARN TO USE THEM. Most of them take a little effort and practice, but it isn't hard and it's sure worth the effort. The push button calls are the easiest for the novice and the slates and box calls can be learned in a couple of sessions. Diaphragm (mouth) calls are more difficult to learn, but as RighardF pointed out, you don't have to move your hands to use them. Different brands work better for different people, so you just have to experiment. Good hunting to you and let us know how your season goes.
primos or knight and hale
Personal favorites-Lynch World Champion box call, Perfection slate (real slate, not glass or aluminum), Knight & Hale diaphragms, and Quaker Boy push-pulls.
Not sure how many calls I have (many) but the one I use the most is a Lynch's Fool proof box call. The name says it all.
i like knight and hales push pullmodel 150. their pocket slate mod 159 and the ashby gobbler box.
