Q:
I've been told that carbon arrow shooters are starting to go back to aluminum, that carbon is not delivering the level of performance that aluminum does on game. Anybody know anything about this? Thanks and good hunting.

Not a trend with bow hunters that I know. Personally, carbons suit me just fine.

Some for nostalgic reasons much like traditional archers with wood arrows. Even the traditionalists are using carbon for hunting because carbon delivers performance.

Well like most people will say its really all a preference. The majority of the conversion from carbon back to aluminum i hear is all about the kinetic energy. I hear a lot of talk about how aluminum arrows are putting more kinetic energy out than any carbon. Me myself i still shoot carbons i guess it all depends on you.

I have never heard this? I'll never switch back, carbons rock.

I've heard of hunters switching from all carbon to carbon+alloy arrows (like ACC's or Full Metal Jackets) to get the best of both worlds, but not anyone swtiching back to full aluminum.

I'll never go back, carbon wont stay bent after a bad pull from target. I'll trade less kinetic energy for flatter faster arrows.

Yes. It is a trend. I have been considering it for a couple years now. I live in Ohio where all shots are under 30 yards. Carbon performs best over 30 yards. My bow shoots much quieter with aluminum arrows and you cannot ignore the fact that KE will come in handy if you hit a bone. There is no difference in accuracy IMO.

As for the longevity of carbon. I still go through at least a dozen arrows a year with carbon. Hit anything solid with carbon and you'll split the shaft at the noc.

A carbon arrow of the same weight with the same weight head with the same velocity will have the same kinetic energy no matter the material.

I've heard from some people who are pulling lighter weights, that aluminum arrows work better in their draw length and draw weight....but i'm pulling 70 lbs in a matthews drenalin and all i can say is wow about how fast and accurate those carbon arrows are even the heavy carbon arrows are fast..so i'm sticking to carbon until something better comes out haha

I dont know who would or why they would even consider it i will never go back to aluminum arrows i bought some new arrows this year and no matter how much i shoot them they will last atleast 3 times as long as the aluminum arrows where years ago when i was shooting aluminum i had to buy new arrows every year, yes carbon cost more but in the long term you save money and as far as shooting there is no contest
i think carbon shoot alot better with tighter groups
lets not forget the speed you gain so who ever swaps just wasnt using the rite carbon arrows belieave me.

Personally I would not go back.... Try hunting in freezing rain with carbon then aluminum. I feel the carbon arrow is a God send. To each his own,,, hope everyone goes back and my trusty carbon becomes obsolete and cheaper. Hey ask Uncle Ted he would have the answer, but I would guess he would be hard to convince. GOLDTIP ROCKS!!!!
