They were doing what whitetail do best surviving.Get on Goggle Earth and look at your hunting area Natural funnels bedding close to good food source.I was up early too but i didn't have to get any wood but it sure brings back memories from long ago.Need a bigger woodbox inside.Just think you have all those bucks to hunt this coming season.Stay after them young man and good luck

I had a similar experience yesterday while training my Labradors. There was a herd of elk wading from the island where they spent the night to a National Wildlife Area. 200 yards away. There were a couple of bulls in there that would make anybody proud. Monsters. Big and dark.

It happens to me every year after the season closes---I'll see trophy bucks that survived the season by keeping all their activities noctournal. It's the sort of thing that keeps life interesting.

seems like you have good whitetail habitat if you see that many
Also, they always seem to hide in deer gun season for me too

I just got a big 9 pt on the trail-cam that I never saw before.Still had antlers too. Don't know where he's been, I've had a camera there 3 years.

I hunted a nice 10 really hard and never got a clean shot. Two weeks later on my way back to college creamed this deer doing about 70 mph in my truck. terrible luck but i got a nice rack out of the deal and a destroyed front end
