We are a nation of laws. I have no problem inviting in those immigrants who want to be law abiding, who want to work hard, and who want to contribute to our society. But if an immigrant's first action is to break the law to get into the country we have a problem.

You can argue about how we got here (as a nation) and there certainly is some justification in the idea that we trampled some people doing it (Native Americans in particular) and that may need to be addressed (don’t want to get off topic) but in the end we are the United States of America, NOT the United States of North and Central America. Opening our borders will severely dilute us as a nation (no, I am not talking racially), erode our values (which are significantly different than our neighbors both to the north and the south) and our freedoms. Open the border and you are going to get as many criminals (hard core ones, not just illegal border crossing types) as honest people with the result that crime will sky rocket and our government will use that as an excuse to take more control and restrict further our constitutional rights.

America has immigration problems and they have false Social Security Numbers whereas

Mexico has gun problems and they have no Serial Numbers!

Mexico wants open borders, supplies condoms and complains about guns coming in!

Can’t have it both ways, besides, the guns and explosives they say can be found in isle 5 at Wal-Mart.

The fact of the matter is, they are coming in from South America, overseas and from their own Mexican Government!

I think that America was founded by imigrants. I think that our borders should be open to anyone who is willing to learn English and go through the proper legal steps to citizenship. In other words, send 'em back if they try to sneak in. Send 'em back if we catch them here illegally and welcome those who come in the proper way.

If we tightened our border patrol and all made these illegal aliens who can't take the time to fill out some paper work take a test and sing the star spangled banner should not be allowed into a country like ours, and who cares what the human rights people think. PETA'S latest thing is that they want the canada to stop taking fur off seals to make coats. so i say let 'em have it keep these lazy people off american soil.

Shut the borders up tighter than a nuns skirt I say. Then build a few gigantic factories on the border and put up housing and schools. They can come in as long as they work in the factory for 2 years for 8 hours a day and go to school for 4 hours a day. All classes will be taught in English. All profit from the factory will go toward paying for the housing and the school. Anyone trying to cross the border in another manor will be shot on sight...no questions asked.

I live in south central Texas. And there are alot of border jumpers here in this area. I believe we need to go ahead with the wall that was being built. There's alot of legal Americans out here that need a job but can't find one because of illegals that are taking them. Then on top of that there are some illegals that are coming over here pregnat and having there childern here and with no money or insureance, us the honest working person is having to pay for them to have kids and then the kid is an american citizen.
Its been about ten years ago or so but my family had a deer lease in south Texas and we had our hunting trailer down there. We set it up so we wouldnt need anything once we got to the lease and could just stay there and enjoy hunting. Not a month after we set it up it was destroyed. Illegals were crossing through our lease and useing it for there own. So if that goes to show you how there going to treat things imagine how it will be once there allowed here with no problems.
I understand that there trying to come here to better themselves and familys but at the same time its hurting us. So do I think it should be ok to open the borders. NO.
But if they want to get a work pass and work, pay taxes, and live here legaly that would be fine. Just I'm tired of seeing people here that think they should get a handout.

Interesting thing about the Hispanics, they do pay their bills!

I'm gonna second Golfing Sportsman post for the most part. There are a lot of immigrants here to better themselves for all the right reasons.

To help explain my earlier post is that there is too much government aid given to immigrants. Democrats are traditionally champions of the poor and like to spend money by giving it directly to the people in need or in this case immigrants. . Call me crazy but I'm a big fan of working for your money.

There's a difference between immigrating and going through all the citizenship steps and committing a felony by illegal entering the country. Then billions of dollars get sucked out of the economy and sent to another country.
I'm all for people bettering themselves, but they need to go about it the right way and their home countries need to step up there games.
Clay's right about the Mexican government. They even printed and distributed booklets on where to cross illegally, water sources and pointed out sanctuary cities like SF!

I think its sad that we feel the need to help EVERYONE! Why do we have this need to give handouts to everyone who doesn't deserve them, who hasn't worked for them? We have way too many good hard working american's out of jobs because of too many lazy immigrants taking our jobs, driving down our wages and using our government to their advantage! close the borders and fix the problems before anyone else comes in!

Let's just stop all immigration legal or illegal.

What is the use of calling our country the United States of America if there are no borders? In the first place I can not believe that Americans are so blind as to let the Congress get away with not enforcing the border laws. We have no one to blame but ourselves on this one. If people would call the congress men and representatives and tell them to close the borders and kick out the illegals you can bet they would wake up. Americans are not outraged enough to do anything about it. We have been caught up in apathy and self centeredness. What is it going to take to get our attention? What is it going to take to get us so worked up we are willing to get off the couch and do something about it? You would think that 9/11 would have been that wake up call but i seldom see the shirts and bumper stickers saying " we have not forgotten" any more. Right after 9/11 America was on fire, we were united and nothing was going to get in our way. What happened? We have lost the fire, we have lost the motivation, we have lost our sense of duty and patriotism. Something so drastic is going to have to happen to shake us out of our perfect little worlds that I shudder to think of what that might be. I am completely against the borders being opened. I am an American, they are mexicans. We are not a bunch of people on a continent sharing the land. We have our country they have theirs. The general thought going around that we should be more tolerant of people who come here illegally and take our jobs and take advantage of our government, schools and economy and then we are just supposed to look the other way and say "oh well" is outrageous in the extreme. Obama is the most pathetic excuse of an American I have ever seen. He is a lilly livered spineless coward. Who thinks that there is nothing special about this country and it's people. I could go on and on here but I am getting hot under the collar, so I am going to leave it at that. God help us as a nation.

The Govt. does not give a individual its Rights, Rights are givin to you by you being a human, whether you believe its God or Nature that gave you these Rights, we gave the power to the Govt. to PROTECT our Rights. Nowhere in the Constitution/Bill of Rights does it say anything about "citizens" (except of course the natural born clause written into the 14th, but that has nothing to do with Amendments 1-10, this of course came after the Civil War 1868((I think was the year)). Just because an individual's country of origin doesn't accept Natural LAw and Rights doesn't mean our Govt. can deny Individuals of thier basic Rights as humans first, not subjects of a particular State(Govt.) Yall talk about the Law being the Rule of the Land, but forget that the Constitution IS the Law of the Land and that our so called leaders ignore this LEGAL document almost on a daily basis!!!!
