Joke Turns Lethal; Angler Chokes On Bait

By Dave Hurteau

From The Orange County Register:

Jeff Twaddle, 54, a deckhand on the charter boat Gale Force, based out of the Rainbow Marina near the Port of Long Beach, died on a fishing trip Friday after he put the fish in his mouth as a joke for the 20 kids on-board while out on the water, authorities said.

The joke quickly turned fatal when he started choking, lost consciousness, and was unresponsive.

That is deffinantly a joke gone really bad. But I guess he died with his boots on, to look on the positive side of things. I still prefer to cook and cut my food into bite size pieces. Still a tragic thing to hear.

Don't bite off more than you can chew, it just might kill you. Unfortunate that it happend in front of a bunch of kids.

That's horrible, not a good way to go, especially in front of a bunch of kids. Should be up for a Darwin award.

What is a Darwin award. That is a horible way to go.

Mom always said it's all a game till somebody gets hurt.

Darwin awards go to people that are eliminated from the gene pool by their own stupidity. Example: playing Russian Roulette.

This is why we need to heed our mamas' oft-heard warning: Don't put things in your mouth that don't belong there! Poor fellow. I would rarely disparage a dead man, though, and never the manner in which he died, as we generally have little choice in the matter, and death is rarely a high-quality affair.

A darwin award would only be appropriate if he hadn't had a chance to breed. If he did have kids the inferior fish aspirating genes have already been passed on and it was all for naught.

like a t-shirt says "It's all fun and game 'till someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious", but in this case it is tragic and unfortunate instead of hilarious.

Actually, I think it is good these 20 kids saw this. How many times has each been told the danger of some action but ignored it - I can bet they will all think twice about ignoring parental guidance in the future (at least to some extent, or maybe just until next week when they see a TV prankster do something dumb and survive!)

Not only do I feel sad for the man that died, but also for the children that witnessed this tragic event.

Ditto 2Poppa.

Although he seems like a good candidate for a Darwin Award, at least an honorable mention. Jeez.

I feel sorry for the kids that witnessed this, but as Jef Foxworthy would say "Famous Last Words, "Hey guys, check this out"

Actually, this IS a good thing for kids to see. Can you think of anything better to demonstrate the price of dumbass-ity than the famous last words:

Hey y'all! Watch this......
