Chad Love: Turn Your Truck Into A Boat
By Chad Love
So you really want a boat but in these tough economic times you don't have the coin to buy one? Worry no more. If you can scrounge a couple 55-gallon drums, an outboard and a sh*tload of expanding foam you too can turn your truck into a multi-purpose amphibious vehicle that's sea-worthy enough for the English Channel.
The video is long, but hilarious. If you've never watched "Top Gear" on BBC America, you're missing what is quite simply the best show on television.
The sheer convenience of such a rig boggles the mind, doesn't it? Burned-out trailer bearings? Non-working trailer lights? Backing down the boat ramp? All history. Just hit the lake and go. Literally. It's brilliant.

I bet my cousin wishes he had that truck when he put his car in the river.
I love that show! And that episode was just great.
and they have the ball's to call us redneck's lmao
I watched both efforts. In the first, they failed utterly and at least one jerry rigged amphibian sank!
But really if you have the foam and the drums, just build a raft!
That was great. I can't believe that it made it! I wonder if they made the trip back the same way.. .probably not!!!
Well... that is one approach to boredom :)
I was quite entertained, actually!
I get a kick out of their show. I can do without all the barbs directed at Americans but hey they have to play to their Euro audience. There are actually two episodes of amphibious (sort of) vehicle attempts - both hilarious. These guys are lucky they haven't died on some of their episodes. I wonder how a US version of this show would fare???
You have to watch both attempts at making amphibious vehicles to appreciate the fact that the truck made it across the channel. the first time they did it, he made it all the way across a two mile long reservoir but it flipped over as he turned to get around a dock by the boat ramp. That's why he added the barrels for stability.
I love this show and now I really want to make a truck in to a boat, save a lot of time.
haha anyone have an old truck i can barrow?
I've seen a few amphibious cars - they always make me smile. But an amphibious truck! Now yer talkin' ... could do well out on the ice, too, especially when the flows beak up.
Maybe these guys should work on a sub/van next. Adds new meaning to submarine races.
that would be so much fun
I would say that brilliant is exactly the word to describe such a contraption.
