Bison Escapes Michigan Farm, Not Authorities

By Dave Hurteau

From The Herald-Palladium:

Police had to shoot and kill a runaway bison in St. Joseph on Saturday after they were unable to get the big animal off the streets and it charged a police officer. . . .

“It was a risk to public safety,” Banasik said. “It was running through traffic, vehicles were stopping, it was running through residential neighborhoods, and it ran past a playground that was occupied. We had made an attempt to use our cars to try to force back into the ravine, and it wouldn’t stay there. Then, of course, when the officer got out of his vehicle and it charged, you had no choice.”

You watch, the PETA nutjob force will be called into action here shortly. Defending a runaway beast that would trample someone if it had the opportunity. Nice work by the police in keeping the community safe. Good job guys!

I hope they donated it to a food bank or something.

It was just a young one - good thing it wasn't full grown. How does a bison jump a fence?

Does anyone else wish that they could go on a bison hunt?

I do!!

These animals used to be one of the most common big game animals in the country. Their range used to span from western NY to eastern Oregon and as far south as Mexico.

Some extremely unethical and unregulated hunting in the 1800's led to them be essentially extinct everywhere in the US except Yellowstone national park.

Let me be the first to call for us sportsmen to take a cue from the wolves and turkeys! Let's reintroduce Bison across the country so that in a few decades we can all argue about our favorite bison rifle!!!

dear god, think of how much fun it would be to stalk a 2000 lb bull!

(by the way, have you guys ever had bison meat? that stuff is delicious!!)

There must be about 1,000 bufalo ranches in the various States. Some of them have hunts on them.
Unless he decides to stalk you.
Yes I shot one. On a 30,000 acre ranch.

sorry, I'm just not buying that its the same as hunting a wild animal.

We have a few of them around here, and from what I've seen they aren't all that different from cattle farms.

They've got to be more accustomed to humans and more predictable than wild animals.

Peta will most likely have a problem with that. The guy had to defend his life, it is more than acceptable to do so. Hope he got to keep the meat, bison is good eating.
