Park Service Backpedals on Proposed Lead Ban
From the Jackson Hole Daily:
National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis said he has no plans to ban lead bullets and fishing tackle in parks but said nonlead alternatives are a good option for hunters and sportsmen. . . .
Former acting Director Daniel Wenk seemed to propose such a ban in March but quickly retracted the statement, saying the Park Service would study the issue further.
Jarvis said Wenk’s announcement “came out poorly.”

A step in the direction of rational policy. Hmmm.
Kudos to Jon Jarvis for a breath of rational air.
I guess you can't hunt or fish without lead. Its no fun unless we can pollute the environment.

If there were any evidence that elemental lead pellets pollute the environment you might have a point. But you don't. The only lead known to enter the ecosystem comes from tetraethyl lead (now banned these 30+ years)and lead carbonate in paint. Specifically, it is aerosolized lead particulates that can be inhaled that are taken up into animal tissue. Bullets and lead sinkers are chemically the wrong stuff (elemental lead, not lead carbonate, not tetraethyl lead), and they're not aerosolized.
