Utah Deer Hunter Bags Opening-Day Cougar
From the Standard-Examiner:
It was a classic case of the hunter becoming the hunted on the Oct. 17 season opener of the Utah deer hunt, as the 48-year-old Syracuse resident [David Garcia] found himself face to face with a full-grown, 150-pound mountain lion. . . .
"When I saw her, it sent a chill through my spine that I can't explain. I was trembling," Garcia said. . . .
"When I turned around, she immediately went into a crouch and started hissing like crazy," Garcia said, "so I lifted my rifle and looked through my scope and all I saw was her head -- then I just fired. . . ."
The wildlife officers investigated and determined Garcia acted in self-defense.

Too bad for the cat. Sounds like she was protecting kittens but a human wouldn't know beforehand and shouldn't take chances. Good shoot.
Glad everything turned out okay.
I would've needed a change of underwear. . .
I'm glad that you are alright Mr. David Garcia. I will definitely do the same if my life is being threatened by a big cat!!!
Yeah I'd have a hard time not pulling the trigger sooner to many stories of such dangerous animals.
Thanks for the story! Each day in the field has it's own special events...life threatening or not! You'll remember that forever. That's what hunting is all about the experiences.
