Video: Faithful Dog Welcomes Home a Soldier
By David DiBenedetto
I’m not sure about you, but the best part of my day is coming home to my wonderful wife and my pup. And while Jenny is always happy to see me, it’s Pritch that just goes bonkers—her whole body wagging like a giant tail. You would think I’d been away for a week. If there’s anything better, I haven’t run into it yet.
So I can only imagine the profound welcome the soldier in the video below felt when his pup greeted him after he returned from Kandahar, Afganastan (September 2005).
This video (which has become a viral sensation on the Internet) says a lot about man’s best friend. And as we approach Thanksgiving, let me say this:
Thanks to the soldiers who defend our liberties everyday. You provide us with freedoms many just dream of. And thanks to the dogs. Whether we come home from serving our country or from flipping burgers at a fast food joint, you are always happy to see us.
Enjoy the video. And thank a soldier.

no matter how crappy my day is, my pup always makes me smile with her post-work greeting. can't imagine how this guy must've felt when he received his hero's welcome!
like they say mans best friend
Heartwarming!
My Lab does almost the same routine daily!
Unconditional love at its best! My two yard muts welocme me home every day as if I've been gone a week!
Thanks a million for that video. Every day is a new day for our dogs and mine goes nuts to see us, even if we only left for a few hours.
Thanks for that,my dogs meet me at the door with that excitement and more.Unless there is a squirrel on the window sill then they tag me at the door and go back to the window.
It is amazing how excited dogs can get. I know when I take my beagles hunting, they are so excited that it is difficult to hook them up to the leashes. When they are all finally hooked up they stand noses pushed into the corner of the gate like racehorses starting a race. Never seen a cat act like that!!
I get that from my girl Heidi if I go outside to mow the yard.
They say dogs have no sense of time so you can be gone for 10 minutes or 10 months and they are still glad to see you. Not so sure about that when you see something like this. Where was the cat?
After six months working in California I returned home in June. My two labs went totally bonkers. I got smothered before I could even get to the gate. Both of them were bouncing in the air as high as my face. Finally I got down on the ground before they hurt themselves. What a dog pile! Same thing when I got in the house. Pearl climbed up on the couch and pinned me in place with her chin on my lap. Opal laid on top of both feet. You're not leaving again, Dad! What the video doesn't show is the dog when it sees all the baggage being packed up before he leaves. They know you're going and not just to the grocery store. Pretty heartbreaking.
Great video! Makes me truly happy to have a dog in my life and a country full of soldiers to protect that way of life. Thank you military men and women!
They say a Dog don’t have feelings that you can give them away to someone else and they will forget about you, WRONG!
There is a “Special Bond” between Human and Dog” and for those who don’t understand it, perhaps that’s the reason they suffer from Divorces and such. It’s not a matter of Ownership; it’s a Bonding of something much bigger than we can ever understand!
I remember the day I got home after being overseas for one year, Riffraff my Buddy a German shorthair went literally ballistic when he smelled where I walked into the back bedroom. “SNIFF!”, “SNIFF!”, “ SNIFF!” and exploded through the door he came, all 70 pounds! And yes, he was large for his breed, the size of an Irish Sitter.
Awsome!!!!! Made my day....called Man's best friend for a reason....
Everyday when I get home from school at 3:00, Luger (my pup) goes absolutewly CRAZY. And that's not all. If I even leave the room for a second, she cries untill I get back and when I return, she acts as if I was gone for years. She makes any day a better day. No matter how good/bad it was to begin with. It's just amazing!
Kind of hard to type when you have something in your eyes.
Thank God for our soldiers and God bless the USA.Great video.
Glad you're a true patriot, Dave. And thank God for our soldiers... and their dogs.
As my kids would say, "That's a Happy Puppy!"
Nothing like a LOVE between a "boy" and his dog !
GOD BLESS THEM ALL !
That was great. Ditto the last few comments.
