West Virginia Hunter Finds Giant Egg, Prankster Comes Forward
By Dave Hurteau
From the Charleston Daily Mail:
The mystery of how an ostrich egg ended up in the woods off Dutch Ridge Road finally has been cracked.
And as it turns out, it was just a joke gone wrong.
The mystery began last week, when Sherman Farley stumbled upon the egg while deer hunting. At 4.5 pounds and 18 inches around longways, it was pretty hard to miss. . . .
After reading the Farleys' story in last Thursday's Daily Mail, those responsible for what turned out to be a little practical yolk - er, joke - stepped forward.
"I put it there for my brother, or whoever, to find while hunting," [Herbert] Herold said. "I was just being ornery. I'm always doing stuff like that."
