14-Year-Old New Zealand Girl Drives Off Attacking Shark With Boogie Board
By Online Editors
From SkyNews.com
A teenage girl has told how she bashed an attacking shark over the head with her body board until it let her go.
Lydia Ward, 14, was in waist-deep water with her brother at Oreti Beach, on New Zealand's South Island, when the sea creature grabbed her hip.
She said she did not notice the shark until the attack was under way.
"I saw my brother's face and turned to the side and saw this large grey thing in the water, so I just hit it on the head with a boogie board" ....

Tough girl! The fact that she kept her cool and didn't freak out is probably what kept her alive.
Yea Lydia! She counted Coup on that shark! It becomes her Totem now, you can guess she won't be any fainting lily when she grows up. I'm imagining the tattoo she'll get someday...
Beat off a shark as a teenage girl! She'll tell that tale so many times she'll want illustrations!
ALBATROSS !
she is not a typical girl anyway, dukkillr is right, she kept a level head and used what tools she had available to her at the time. Sounds like she has some common sense.
Kudos to this young lady. She did exactly the right thing. I don't think she'll be easy prey for the "landsharks" when she grows up.
