Baja: A Honeymoon and Roosterfish
By Tim Romano
A wee update from Mexico. What, you think I'd come all the way to the East Cape of Baja on my honeymoon and not fish?
Walking the beaches we ran into Jeff Debrown of the Reel Baja - Baja's expert for rooster fish on a fly, a group of anglers from Moldychum.com, and a lovely lady named Kate who runs the blog Rogue Angels. That's her arm with the bruise. A monster jack took her rod and reel for a ride giving her that lovely memento.
Oh, and many thanks to John Mazurkiewicz and Scientific Anglers for getting us dialed in on the perfect line for throwing at those picky fish. The Wet Tip clear lines were the perfect combination of stealth and sink. They were a heck of a lot easier to get off the water quickly then a full sink tip.
Enjoy the photos. TR

TR, All I can say is that you are the best I have ever seen at F&S and I've been reading this rag since before you were born.
Somebody give this guy a raise.

Wow!
Those post card pictures, tell one heck of a story ... beautiful time!
Must have been 5-o'clock on the East Cape, of Baja,
when some of those pictures were taken ...
¡Agarre un pez grande, no la gripe de cerdo! :}}}
4th from the last photo, thats what you'd call a home-made beachhead!
The video of the Roster on the Moldy Chum is sweet, that must have been one heck of a trip!
buckhunter,
Many thanks for the vote of confidence. It made my day to come back and read your comment, but in my personal opinion I'd have to bestow that honor on Erika Larsen. Her stuff on young hunters a year or so ago was simply amazing. I'd love to be able to emulate that stuff.
Hey Tim,
It was great to meet you on the beach, your photos here are stellar as usual. It looks like the rest of your honeymoon was fun and schwilly.
The last day you saw us turned into an epic day of fishing. Today was unfortunately our last, and in the early morning hours, we are heading back to Oregon via the old Dodge, "Starship Enterprise". Wish us luck.

Once again... grade "A" pictures. I am not sure if you went to a class or took some kind of lessons or just picked it up but your photos are top notch. They really capture your story... they seem to original and not akward or cheesey like a lot of photos tend to be. Great Job once again!
I agree with buckhunter.
Beautiful Tim. Looks like a splendid time. I thought you got married last year? I suppose this was a belated honeymoon or at least another good reason to go fishing in the tropics with your sweetie!
I was married last september, but due to a number of circumstances we could not take a honeymoon then. So we are on it now. Thanks for the complements.

Ditto on the words about Tim's shooting acumen. But...
PuhLEEZE... Timmy, you make it sound like you haven't wet a line since September. Do I need to dig out the old post on the six places you've been fishing since you got married... BC... New Orleans...
Hey Tim, just so you know... fish like changes.
TR--
I won't take sides on the aperture smackdown between you and the inestimable Ms. Larsen, but damnation those are some gorgeous photos. Makes me weep to return to Baha....
the aperture smackdown... That is awesome. Many thanks Mr. Nickens. Glad you approve.
I say get down there as fast as you can. Heck, let's go together... We'll grab Deeter - a couple other eds on the list and have a grand old Baja fishing party.
I'd go back in a skinny minute. Let me know when.
Hey, how can I get a PM to ya? You have my email?
Amazing Photos. Makes me want to scream cocal-doodle-doo.
inspiring photos...you have the gift of imagery. Georgia and I were booked into the Rancho Leonero Resort. East Cape and our scheduled flight from Reno to Cabo was to depart two days after the H1N1 out-break in Mexico. We stayed home and missed fly fishing the Sea of Cortez but your photos inspired us to book passage this summer. Ole!
