Alleged Father-and-Son Poachers Charged With Killing 26-Point Giant

From the Chicago Tribune:

Charged with misdemeanors in the incident are 45-year-old Wayne Nisiewicz and his 24-year-old son Anthony Nisiewicz, both of rural Horicon. Holmes says the son told wardens that he legally shot big buck with a bow and arrow but investigators believe the arrow wound was inflicted after the buck had died.

Holmes says the buck would be the third largest deer with 'non-typical' antlers ever taken in Wisconsin if legally shot with a bow and arrow.

It's amazing how people let antlers drive them to do the dumbest things......

wtf do they autopsy all the deer taken in IL or what?

"...shot with a gun late last year near Horicon during the archery season"

I suspect that they're going to have to make their case with something the indicted wrote. Otherwise what're they going to offer for evidence? Something like 'Janet said that her husband said that he heard gunshots in the same county where the deer was taken on or about a period within three days when the defendants tagged their deer? Therefore....?'

People do crazy things for big antlers. I wish this article was a little more indepth and told how they found out about it, etc. Also it would be nice to let readers know what the punishment would be to help deter others who might think about doing this.

Minus One for the author of the story for lack of detail.

It sounds like these people are not hunters, they are idiots. I also agree that it would be nice to get some more details on this story.

Heck,it could be a jealous ex-boyfriend, or an envious neighbor that hunts the adjacent property that had seen the gnarly buck before.

When my bud shot the Kentucky State record all of the cockroaches came crawling out and wanted a piece of his glory, and took him to court.

They said he trespassed and shot the deer on someone elses property. He had to spend over a $1000.00 dollars on attorney fees. This is one of the most honest men I know, and he would rather give than take.Besides that,he is a meat hunter mostly, and makes the best deer jerky, that I have tasted.

He proved his case in court,in less than a minute.
All was well!

Why are people obsessed over antlers? You can't eat them> It only feeds your ego.

Kim-
I liked your thought provoking statement!

I have to admit,I'm a Monster Buck hunter, first and foremost, and a meat eater secondary. But,with that being said,I always make sure I get my does, consequently I eat a lot of buck tags.

I haven't shot a buck in a lot of years as I'm choosy as to what caliber of buck I take.I invest a lot of time in huntin' certain Monster Bucks,as I hunt over 60-days a year, during the season.

But ... when the season is in full swing,it's not all about the antlers,to me, it's 'bout being out in the woods, and the accompaning smells, and sounds that make for a full days hunt,sun-up to sun-down,ended with a thought provoking campfire, thinkin' 'bout the days end.

And yes,it does feed my ego,and perhaps this is "the"one area, where I won't allow it to starve.I'm careful, and very aware of when my ego is trying to dominate my thoughts.

Moishe-
You too are right on IMO!

PS
I didn't see anywhere in the above story that the men were found guilty, and as Kim rightfully mentioned the ego,it can provoke one to aspire to a particular goal, even perhaps for the wrong reason,no matter the consequences, right or wrong.

Different strokes,for different folks!

Scott,

My Sep issue of F&S came yesterday and I enjoyed the article on big bucks. However, How did you miss the monster 242 inch NTWT taken by bowhunter Steve Binkley in Iowa Nov 29,2008. I know the taxidermist that did the mount. There is a photo of the 31 point buck with taxidermist Dan Snowbarger on page 8 of my photofiles. The buck is also on Snowbargers web site at
www.ddstaxidermy.com

Darn shame about the poached buck. There is also a photo on that same page (of my photofile) of a Kansas game warden holding the antlers of a monster shot at night by a poacher using a nightscope on a Browning BAR

I dont get why people see deer with big rscks and think that they can get away with taking it illegaly. I've met some people who used to poach animals but they would shoot does and it was because they had no money to feed their family, im not saying its right to poach but why do something so stupid.

Seems like so many people take a look at the rack of some bucks and instantly, they turn place stupid. They do the dumbest things and in the mean time, make up some charges, take great looking bucks that could of been taken fairly off the playing field, and last but not least but they make hunters look horrible after people reflect what they did on other hutners.
