Discussion Topic: On Carrie Underwood And The Humane Society
By Dave Hurteau

Are you a Carrie Underwood fan?
From the Los Angeles Times:
[Carrie Underwood’s version on the Motley Crue song “Home Sweet Home”] is being released as a digital single and partial proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the United States.
"I’ve always loved this song, and . . . the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes," Underwood said on her website.
Very well, but hunters across America, many of them country folks and fans of Underwood, might turn against her because hunters and the Humane Society are not on good terms.
"Carrie Underwood has decided to use her talents to benefit an organization dedicated to destroying the rights of thousands of her fans," Rick Story, vice president of the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance, said in a news release. "HSUS does not operate or oversee animal shelters; it is a radical organization that seeks to end hunting and other responsible uses of animals in America."
Are you still a Carrie Underwood fan?

Well, I was a Motley Crue fan, but not if they're cool with Carrie Underwood singing their tunes.
Never was a Motley Crue fan nor am I really a Carrie Underwood fan. I knew she was a member of PETA and a vegan, so I decided I wouldn't pay much mind to her. If her song came on the radio, I wouldn't necessarily change stations, but I won't go out and buy any of her albums or anything with her face on it. Maybe if she was nekked in Playboy or something... Maybe.
Not a fan...Not with wayne pacelle as the president and CEO of the HSUS...pacelle is one of the most vehement and down-right nasty anti-hunters...Ms. Underwood would do well to figure out which side her bread is buttered on...maybe she should ask the dixie chicks for career advice...
There are two sides to this story.
First, on the national level we have two organizations(The Humane Society vs The U.S. Sportsman Alliance)whom try to justify their jobs by going at each other in the national spotlight.
Locally, the Humane Society in my area is a wonderful organization staffed by both hunters and non hunters alike whom do not share the same views as the national organizations. I have a lot of respect for the local Humane Society and for the people that volunteer their time.
To put a story like this in perspective you have two organizations with two different philosophies with a huge over lapping grey area among the membership and for Mr. Story to speak so bluntly about Carrie Underwood on behalf of the entire organization is just plain ignorant.
First let me just say i'm not a fan of country music in general.
Secondly, I personally wish that we would stop worrying about how celeberties live their lives. So what is she supports something we are against? If you like her music then keep listening to it. I think that there are more important things to worry about.
Nate
thats why i listen to Miranda Lambert.
60256,
Don't worry, she really isn't a country music singer anyway.
I would say that I have no problem with her expressing her points of view (like Dixie Chicks). I just hate it when their target market decides they don't like the performers point of view and stops buying their records and the performer starts whining. If they are going to exercise their freedom of speech they need to expect that the buying public is going to exercise their freedom to buy or not buy what they want to.
Buckhunter, please try to understand the point of the article: The HSUS is SEPARATE from local humane societies and animal shelters, which are usually great. The area is not so gray as you say it is. The HSUS was formed in 1954, long after we already had animal shelters in the US, and is a political action group. It has no hands-on tie to sheltering lost pets. And it says on its own website that it's against all hunting as a matter of principal. For a more detailed explanation see the conservation post: http://www.fieldandstreamextras.com/heroes/blog/2009/03/oh-humanity.php
Well, I don't care for the HSUS but as a Vietnam Vet the fact that she took the time to visit our troops in Iraq in December 2006 tells me all I need to know about her.

If you've seen one formula-made pop-music diva playing guitar in her underwear you've seen 'em all.
I personaly never was a fan of her and this does not help her case. I agree with kolbster Miranda Lambert is a better singer, more country, and a hunter.
She's just your typical blonde bimbo who can't sing but performed elsewhere to get where she got. Now she's just as ugly as PETA's president. Miranda Lambert ROCKS!!
Mike Diehl
I agree 100%. Sorry I missed the guitar playing in her underwear part! Just another pop culture bimbette.
I don't listen to or buy her product, but if i did, I'd boycott it. Very typical of today's celebrities. Few of them have a clue.
I'm glad this was brought to my attention. I didn't realize she is a big PETA supporter. I'll cross her off my list of music artists. No need for her to get my dollars so that she can push her extremist views.

Here is an article detailing how the HSUS has benefitted greatly by people just like Ms. Underwood confusing the HSUS with locally run animal shelters and "humane societies".
I have been a wildlife-rehab volunteer at our (terminally underfunded) local shelter for a number of years. If I can make a suggestion, give Ms. Underwood the benefit of the doubt that she just hasn't done her homework and is confused just like a lot of other people over which organization does what. Meanwhile donate the money you would otherwise have spent on her CD to your local shelter. I'm sure she'll understand, and everybody wins.
I did respect her, but after this, forget it. I don't care how hot she is or how good she can sing!
Have you seen her fat ass lately? Looks like she's been eating plenty of animals, lettuce doesn't do that to you.
Never was. im more of a skynard, gram parsons kinda guy . but now i hate her. and shouldnt this money go to the trops or protectin our woods and not helpin a wonded racoon find his way home
Buckhunter, there are two version of the Humane Society - the Humane Society itself (a legitimate group); and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which is a front group against hunting and guns. Don't confuse the REAL Humane Society with HSUS.
I've never based liking a musical artist on anything other than their music. So she doesn't like hunting, etc......eh, I still like her music....and she's hot
I was no longer interested in her after her protest of rodeos (after she had signed up to play at one). If that is your interest, fine, but maybe you should have a better manager. I agree, Miranda Lambert rocks, and would prefer listening to her ssinging about loading her shotgun anytime.
Two Humane Societies? I gotta get out more. I just goggled HSUS. What a load of crap they are pitching on thier website. I stand corrected. I'm an idiot. Thanks for setting me straight guys and gals. My punishment shall be to see how many negatives I can get on my last post. Feel free to join in on the fun. I gave myself a (-).
so sad. i knew she was a vegetarian but i had no idea she was a PETA psyco. shes so hot though
Oh well, yet another Nashville/Hollywood blond that wants to do something good. I suggest she take some of that cash and help the people who need help in this world. What a joke... I just tossed her in the pile with the likes of Reba "gun control" Mcentire.
Peter,
I suppose it's easy to dismiss efforts to "helpin a wounded raccoon find its way home", but how about the next time you shoot a goose (or an offspring of a goose) that was rehabbed by the Humane Society, or a rabbit, or a duck, or a deer, you give a little credit where its due. I suppose we can also then dismiss the efforts of the NWTF, Ducks Unlimited, Ruffed Grouse Society, etc since that money should have gone to "to the trops or protectin our woods". There are a lot of groups and people that contribute a heck of a lot of time and energy making your outdoors experience a better one.
Sorry, you touched a nerve.
bob81, it is very easy to dismiss the "benifits" of hsus to the hunting community. "rehabbing" individual geese, rabbits and deer, I'm sure this has truly improved all of our outdoor experiences. As if this is where the majority of hsus time and funding are focused. To compare their work to that of the NWTF, DU, or RGS is laughable. The latter truely have had a benificial and noticable impact on everyones outdoor experience.
sorry, you touched a nerve.
YOU WANT A HOT BLONDE?
HOW ABOUT TIFFANY LAKOSKY?
AND SHE REALLY CAN HUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MOelkman,
I think you are confused about the distinction between HSUS and local humane societies. I am in no way defending the HSUS. I am however defending the work of local humane societies, of which I am a supporter. (The two are distinct entities and are in no way affiliated outside of potentially some minor financial support.)
To call humane societies impact minimal is ignorant. We do much more than nurse baby animals back to health. We also do habitat restoration, outdoor education and a whole host of other activities.
A good offense is better than a good defense.
We all need to see if we can convince Tiffany to come out with her own songs.
COME ON TIFFANY!
I'll not only buy your songs, I'll buy more as gifts.
You go girl. You know B,S.S.(Big Song Sung)
Jim in Mo
Jim, you crack me up! I guess them tofu burgers will give you a ghetto booty just like fried chicken will!
LMAO!
OrangeNeckinNY,
Read the blog before you talk and ridicule others. She was speaking on behalf of HSUS!
I will say that she is drop dead gorgeous. But that is besides the point. I respect her as a country singer and what she does with her money is her business even though I would of liked to see her donate somewhere else. I also think that if she donated to the NRA (or other hunting/gun group), it would of sparked more of a controversy than this. I also believe that she didn't know that the Human Society does more than shelter and rescue animals... atleast that is what I would like to think.
that redneck woman singer will knock her out............
