I think its really fun, I just started doing it this year. I bought two small game points. Its fun and alot more challenging. Its also good for the enviroment. Example a .22, You could just mop 'em up, A bow, its harder/funner, and you could be hunting for a few hours and only have a few. So your not just slaughtering squirrels. I like to shoot a few cottontails before a family BBQ. Great off-season sport and keeps you in shape for shooting! =]

DON'T SHOOT THEM IN THE TREES. You have a great chance of loosing arrows. Use a Judo point. If you hit the ground the aroow will bounce up so you can find it.

I've shishkabobbed a few from my tree stand deer hunting, but i don't advise it. Shot one 30 at yds. Ruins your broadhead, scares the deer off. I've since let the squirrels go no matter how much they taunt me.

no steve, don't shoot them with your broadheads, especially your good ones. Google small game ppoints for bows or look on cabelas/basspro whatever your preferred dealer and look for the small game points. These things are fairly cheap and they usually stop as soon as they hit something. Its great fun!

back up to bowhunter .22's now are so revolutionary, it's easy to shoot squirrels but a bow is much more of a challenge

Only shoot squirrels with a bow if its the off seasaon and you justy want to practice with your sighted in bow. But make sure your not using nice arrows or broadheads. Overrall its probably a bad idea unless your really bored.

I shoot a ton of squirrels from my treestand. It saves arrows if your shooting down into the ground.

yea squirrel hunting is really fun with a bow but just make sure you are using a field tip and not a broadhead. I pretty much cut one in half last year because i used a broadhead from my deer strand.

The G5 small game heads are awesome for this. They aren't terribly sharp in the first place and they don't need to be, so you never have to worry about beating them up. They're pretty indestructible. I think I've only shot one squirrel with a bow, but I used to hunt rabbits (not running ones - I wish I was that good) with my recurve. I should probably get back into that.

Use a very rugged arrow and dedicated heads for this type of hunting. The G5, Judo, screw on plastic blunts and large rubber blunts all work well, but with the newer narrow shafts you will have to do some spacer work with the rubber blunts. The PSE black shafts (I can't remember the proper name for them) are very tough and will take a tremendous amount of abuse. Never attempt this type of hunting with broadheads or field points. If you are on a tight budget, there is a small stamped sharp edged piece of metal (sold in 5 packs)That attaches behind a field point and these simple things work quite well.

I always take one field point into my stand when I deer hunt incase the deer don't show and the squirrels get too close. One morning I was walking back from my stand and this gray squirrel jumped out in front of me. I had a broadhead knocked but I couldn't pass up the shot. Luckily I put it right throught the rib cage and didnt ruin any of the meat. It also didn't hurt my arrow or broadhead.

I started using rubber blunt tips and it is a really good time. I have lost a lot of arrows though from shooting into trees.

I tried squirrel hunting with my bow last year. I came home with too many broken arrows and too little meat to justify trying it again.
