Uploaded on December 02, 2009

So just in from the news as of today, the Illinois state government has just anounced that they are going to poison the river, about a 10 mile stretch, to cut down on the numbers of asian carp. the asian carp have caused many injuries to boaters and is killing the ecology of the river. The carp eats 1/10 of its daily body weight thus killing the other fish and plants. Your thoughts...

I think calling the problem "solved" is a little premature, but hopefully the poisoning of the river at least keeps them from entering Lake Michigan.

Interesting problem these Asian Carp, don't know if there is a simple solution to it? Hopefully the Illinois experiment helps for future solutions, as well. They've got to start somewhere?

I think poisoning the river could be a double edged sword. it might poison the other fish. maybe introducing pike or musky or other predatory fish might be a better option.

The poison dissipates after a couple of days, but supposedly they will be adding another chemical to the river to neutralize the poison even quicker. An update the effort can be found at:
