New Contest: Links of the Week

Uploaded on February 06, 2009

I've got a Brunton Firestorm stormproof butane camping lighter sitting on my desk and want to give it away to whomever finds the best link to an interesting hunting, fishing, camping, or survival-related story. The rules are simple; each entry should contain a working URL to the story along with a brief headline and a 20-word (or less) summary of what we'll find if we click on that link. I'll pick my favorite by Friday and get the lighter in the mail by Monday 2/16. Email any questions to webmaster@fieldandstream.com, and good luck!

The Most Crazy Fishing Trip Ever!

This is a story about an offshore fishing trip that turned into possibly the weirdest series of events. I did not believe it at first, but its pretty apparent that it is true with the wealth of pictures backing it up. Its a must read crazy story.

Well here's one of the stories I found. It's about how a deers vision is. It's very interesting, but more educational than a "story".

Twenty years ago, olympic biathlete Kari Swenson was kidnapped near Big Sky, MT while on a training run...Her abductors, Dan and Don Nichols were self-proclaimed "mountain men" and had kidnapped Ms. Swenson so that she could become Dan's wife...Ms. Swenson's abduction set off a nation-wide search and resulted in the shooting death of a would-be rescuer Alan Goldstein...

Mentioned in the below article is my former employer Tom Heintz owner of Medicine Lake Outfitters, out of Bozeman, MT...Tom and my father are the hunters who first ran into the Nichols' in the Spanish Peaks, south of Bozeman...My Dad and Tom had a few tense moments during the encounter, which thankfully ended peacefully...The Nichols' were eventually captured and imprisoned...The entire affair spawned movies, books and songs and is talked about frequently among my family...

Alright! You all sent in great links, but when it comes to winners, there can be only one. The nod goes to VT Outdoorsman, with his story about a fishing boat that became trapped in a tuna pen in the Sea of Cortez, which wins in part because of all the photos that ran with the story. VT, you get the lighter. I'll be in touch.
