Bass Fishing
I have a really productive bass lake very near me that is getting old enough that it is starting to produce some really nice fish. I have been pretty successful there in the past on smaller (>1-4 pound) fish, but im looking to take some larger fish this year. All of my previous bass experience has been with spinning gear in the colder water and top water action on smaller fish. I recently bought a nice baitcasting setup and would like to beak it in and was looking for some direction. The report as of yesterday said the water is too cold but the next week brings temps no cooler than 80 so I figure this should be a good week. Anyway, Im just looking for lure and color thoughts or new techniques or any general thoughts on the matter. Thanks.
Try a jig and trailer combo in a blue/black pattern or a crawfish pattern, go with 3/16oz rattleback jig with a 4" worm trailer or a crawfish trailer.
Experiment with topwater baits such as chug bugs, pop-r, etc.
Soft plastics such as tubes are great, rig them weedless and you can get some great action on the retrieve,
Hope this helps a bit
hollow body baits are really popular right now. you can rig them many ways and put different trailers on them. pork baits are good as well. try a football jig with frog trailer as well.
When early bass fishing i have the most luck using tube jigs and. Dark colors and a slow presentation of the bait will bring the bass right in the boat. I try to wait 10 seconds after the tube hits bottom if the bass misses it on the way down it will usually suck it up off the bottom. Watch your line on top of the water, when it twitches set the hook and reel in the fish.
