Carp Fishing

Uploaded on July 13, 2009

I caught my first carp over the late spring time this year and now I am really interested in it. Does anyone have any good suggestions for good bait or lures?

I know how to cook one: Stuff the Carp with manure and cook at 450 degrees for 2 hours. Then, take out the fish, throw it away, and eat the manure.

Thanks for the sites and thanks for the bad comment. Carp are fun to catch. Maybe you should try it sometime.

I never said they're bad to catch:I just said they're bad to eat.

I've had luck with corn and worms. Thanks for the sites Alex Pernice. I have never tried with lures though. Is it worth it to try or is real bait better?

I have never tried to eat them either. I would imagine that they don't taste all that good.

Real bait seems to work best, but I like to catch them on flys when they rise or are tailing on the flats, there as hard to get as bonefish.

When stringing up the corn idea, should I go with one kernnel or string the whole hook to hide it? What size hook should I use?

Simple bait recipe I use that works very well is to take 40% Bran flakes and place them in a sock or cloth, dip it in the water and squeeze and mold until it forms a dough, it will be very sticky and holds onto the hook very well. You can add flavoring such as vanilla or strawberry to it, but the standard bran flakes bring a lot of carp in and they are fun to catch,

I like to use ultralight tackle setups to battle them.

hey, i love carp fishing more then anything else in the world. ive tried almost every bait imaginable with tons of differnt set ups. what i have found works best is large corn usually dried for cows that you boil until firm but soft(odd i know but think about half done) with about half a can of the cheapest beer and 3 table spoons of sugar per 5 pounds of corn. once done store in a covered five gallon bucket with about a quater of the liquid.
As for set ups i suggest a non barbed hook alittle bigger then the ones used for sunfish on braided line with a carolina rigged slip sinker. the most important thing though is to put your bait covering the point where the hook meets the line and the point of the hook.
i place about half a 12 ounce cup of corn on the bottom with my corn just on the back edge and the sinker along the bottom of the lake five feet from the food.
the best way to guarantee fish though is to throw bait out everyday, even non fishing days.

as for other baits brown wolly buggers on a 6 wieght fly rod to a carp in the flats will give you a day to remember.

if you think im full of it look at the carp in my profile, it was, 41 pounds (im 6'3 265 for retrospect) 8 pounds short of the ny state record and in the summer with constant baiting i catch about 5 20+ pound carp a day of my dock.

I agree with corn, that is usually a good choice. Also we made small bread balls with peanut butter in them and caught some nice carp
