i just wanted to hear some crazy or goofy ways people have caght fish. For example i went fishing about a month ago with my buddy and we were using cast nets to catch bait and i caght 36 inch carp in a cast net which is fish ohio regulation size but it dont count due to not by catching it by angling.
i have catch my biggest crappie by using a crankbait that i found that day
I caught a tangle of fishing line and while untangling it, I felt a tug. I handlined in a 24" Striper which was exhausted. I released her and kept the nice lure she was hooked on.
Caught a bass after I snagged my wooly bugger on a weed clump,he had no clue as to what it was,so he hit it!I've also caught a few monster carp and 27 catfish in 3 days by using only the leftovers from my lunch.Turkey works best with mustard smeared on it.
i used a piece of bread to catch a largie.
When I was around 10 years old fishing with my dad, I caught a baby bluegill and left it on the hook and was being a normal boy and being a bit, um...cruel...and I casted it back out while it was still on the hook and a nice largemouth got a hold of it...i got it up to the boat and it got off...but it was still really cool for a 10 year old to see!!
i Was fishing in a river around my home and i kept getting bites but he would never take it so i reeled it in and i had caught a catfish that had about 20 feet of line that was coming off the hook and it was tangled on my hook.
I was fishing off of a small bridge going over a pond on my friend'd farm. I was talking to my friend and I wasn't paying attention to my lure, so I was kind of bobbing it up and down. All of the sudden a 3lb bass hit it and ran off with it. Luckily I was able to recover and get him onto shore.
i was fishing for bass when a big 8 lber kept comin through but wouldnt bite anything i threw so i found a soda can and cut it into a lure and bent it onto a small hook to catch bluegill. i caught a bluegill switched my rig and hooked up the bluegill and caught the bass
We were fishing at the ohio river for walleye. I was having a bad night an dkept getting tangled up. I got tangled up with my little brother's line. As I was trying to get the tangle out, I decided to pull his line out of the water so I could cut it. Guess what was on the ehd, a little walleye about 6" long!
caught a muskie on a wax worm crazy time bringin him in
This isn't real crazy but, I caught a catfish on a small rubber minnow. No scent or anything.
At my family reuinion we have a fishing contest at a damn in kentucky,n ear sunset michigan. One of the days during the contest i forgot my fishing pole, so me and my brother grabbed a rope off of a toy set thing, like with the swings and climbing rope, we took that rope off and found some old fishing line, and the we found a hook in the water, which was really rusty..we digged for a while and found a worm. So we sat on the dam and held the rope straight fown and caught the winning catfish!!
when i was about 8 i was fishing with my grandpa and didnt know how to throw a hard bait yet so i had it on my line and was just dragging it around the lake about 2 ft from shore and caught my first and only small mouth bass
Threw a super spook on the back side of a floating log and while trying to free it with line snaps, a 5 lb bass came up and unhooked my lure and swimming free of the hang, alowing me to make an easy catch. another one was while wade fishing the Laguna Madre, a 26 in speckled trout swam up trying to throw a jig, I reached down and grabed it behind the head before it knew what was going on, oh the days.
caught two cats on a single hook at the same time once. When I was about 5 I was just practicing castin in a little pond with no bait or lure. Just had a bare hook and a boober. I got it caught on a really big stick. That 'stick' ended up being a 5 lb large mouth. I caught it with my little 3 ft long x men reel hahaha. Then I was fishing for cats of a dock. I turned around and a fish pulled my rod in the water. We got in a john boat and got it and the fish.Caught a carp with a jitterbug and jig.
Me and my buddy were out on the boat one day.And we were rested up against the shore facing out.I went to go cast and had a bad cast that landed three feet from the boat.To mine and his suprise a 4.5 largemouth hooked on.
i was catching blue gills in my uncles pond just by raking out some of the weeds
I've caught many fish on a bare hook. I have also had fish strike a fly behind me when a sloppy back cast hits the water.
I caught about 12 or so crappies off a dock when I was about 7 or so, using just a piece of cheese.
Caught a nice 2lb largemouth out of a tree! Cast my senko and went a bit high. Made it over the pine branch and the water exploded. Fish was in the air til I got over to let him go!
I was fishing for trout in chazy lake ny last april and saw something floating ahead of my down rigger. It was a tip up. I moved up to grab it and noticed there was a line running down from the spool. I grabbed and started pulling the line up when I noticed it was attatched to a fish. I ended up pulling up a 6 lb laker. It was actually the first laker I ever caught.
When i was 11 or 12 i was playing with a popper really close to the shore and a small large mouth bass hit the lure and swung itself up on shore, it was real funny
i also used my teeth to catch a 46" muskie, just kidding but seriously it happened
the one time i was fishing and i got snagged pulled it loose, and then while reeling it the rest of the way in i got a bite, brought it in turns out i caught someones line then caught a fish with the lost lure, another time while fishing steelhead in the spring in erie, i left my fly in the water to get some weight to put on, pulled it up and i had a steelhead on, that same day my buddy and i were crossing the stream about 20 yards down and one swam into the net he had on the back of his vest
I was casting for northern and i was reeling to slow and it tangled up around the reel. I was untangling it and a 42 inch nothern hit it and i grabbed the line and brought it up just by pulling the line it took 20 whole minutes.
I was in the boundary waters in northern minnesota and I was reeling in a small northern I had hooked when it got stuck in some structure not far from shore. All of a sudden a monster small mouth bass comes out and smacks the northern, then if that wasn't enough a giant northern calmly swims up and grabs my northern and heads for deeper water! I let it take line for awhile and then I began to reel it in, I got it on shore but then when it started going crazy it threw the little northern and slipped back into the water
i was fishing in a flooded creek with beetlespins lost my lures due 2 snags but landed plenty of brim muds bass and sum redfin so i cut a piece of my red shirt and tied it on a #6 aberdeen gold dragged it thru da creek and caught a 1lb redfin pike!
I was catfishin one night with a brocken arm in my subdivision lake when a 22 inch channel cat took the bait and literally swam up on shore. It was one of my largest cats that I have caught.
i went fishin one day and i seen a bass in the water so i casted around it and it wouldnt take the bait so i took the bait off and reeled up next to the bass and yanked up on the fishin pole real hard and i hooked it right in the side of the jaw.
i was in a striper blitz and a big ole cow bumped into my friends leg. not really a catch nut a fun story
I was 7 years old and after a great day of fishing on a small pond I went back the next day with the same plastic minnow I used the day before and casted, and God as my witness, my first cast didn't even make it to the water before a bass swallowed it.
one of our friends sons caught a two pound bass and was letting it swim aoriund in the water and then a big ten pounder came a ate it
Well, I caught a half-dead baby carp with a spear I made. I never thought that it would work lol
I was fly fishing with an Elk Hare Caddis on a stream known for trophy browns. A chub took my fly, and as I was stripping it in to let it go, a nice brown took it. Turned out the brown was only 17" but it was still kind of a crazy way to catch a trout. As you can imagine, I took a lot of flack for having caught him on bait, even though that was quite unintentional:)
Last year I caught a flathead. It had a channel cat in its mouth that had eaten my bluegill I set out for flatheads.
I have caught several fish that had drug in rods and reels and then crossed my lines.
Catchabiggun,
Robby
i got a couple of them... once my little cousin caught a nice bass on a straight hook no worm or anything. He had just got a new pole and reel and we were teaching him how to cast a spinning reel so we set it up with some sinkers and a hook we only had a few worms left so we were just casting with the empty hook and sure enough about his third cast out he caught a 15 inch bass. Another one i got was in canada i was fishing for walleye and i hook a real small one i reeled him up to the boat and as soon as he got up to the boat he spit out my jig and i thought good enough dont need to bother to unhook him so i just left the jig in the water as i got a new leech cause my old one was chewed up and barley hanging on but by the time i got a new a leech i felt a huge tug and sure enough there was a large northern on the end after a decent fight i reeled him in measured 38 inches!
one time my brother and i were wading in the creek and we found a three foot section of pipe, we picked it up and about an eight inch catfirsh flopped out.
another time, i was fishing in a tournament and i cast my line out, looked down at my reel and saw a mess. while trying to take care of the rat's nest, a three pound small mouth decided it was a perfect time to bite my rubber worm. she about pulled my pole of my lap into the water and i horsed her in by hand.
I was reeling in a small brim, which was inhaled by a decent sized bass, which in turn was eaten by a four foot alligator. I had a whole food chain on my hook.
me and my friend were fishing at a local lake and got hot so decided to go for a swim we swam right over a large stump with tons of roots popping out and there was alot of bluegills so we tooka 3 foot section of line, a hook+worm, and sinker and caught dinner
Saw a cutthroat trout slippin one day under a branch coming off a logjam. Watched him for awhile seeing his fins move. Thought he might be injured. I slowly snuck up from behind, reached down, and grabbed him above the tail, but the slimy devil got away!
My brother bagged up some leftover hot dogs but somehow forgot to put them in the fridge. The bag sat in the sunlight for the rest of the day and most of the next before I discovered them. My first reaction was to yell at my bro because I was hungry for some hot dogs dang it! Luckily for me, some fat bluegills were even hungrier for those stinky wieners. Hot dogs < Fried bluegills. Almost felt like thanking my little brother for messing up... almost.
I was guiding a guy one time in my driftboat, and the client hooked a small trout on a dry fly, set the hook so hard, I caught it right up side the head. Good thing it wasn't a STEELhead, that would have really hurt.
One time my friend was reeling in a lure and he said it felt like a huge fish. So i grabbed the net and saw about a 28 inch northern, but when I look further down the line there was a bass on the actually lure. The northern was barely tangled in the line about 15 ft from the bass! I netted both and it definitely was one of the craziest things that's ever happened to me fishing.
Maybe not that rare but last spring i was running a jerbait for bass and after hooking up with a small 8in largemouth it was crushed by a 34in Northern as I was reeling it in, thankfully the largemouth was hooked on the back trebel leaving the front free to hook up the big Northern.
A crazy way?...Throwin a fly, and have it float on top of the water with the crazy thought that a fish lying down below would come up, and inhale my fly right before my very eyes! UUUUPS THERE'S ONE!!!
i was trout fishing and couldnt catch a cold. i watched a moth hit the water an all hell broke lose, inhaled by a brown, i took a cigarette butt and took off the filter, fluffed both ends ,put on a hook and tossed it in ,wham i hooked a nice brown.remember fishing is a jerk at one end ,waiting for a jerk on the other end
Here's mine. It was on video, so it's no "fish tale!"

I got a yellow perch with 4 hooks in its mouth from 3 rods.
Was fishing one day in the local stream and my rod went crazy. I reeled it in to find an 18inch catfish hooked through the whisker. I had never seen this before! Too funny!
I found a fishing pole under the deck at my father-in-laws, and headed toward the creek in his back yard to catch some chubs. When I got there I noticed that there was no hook!? I then went to my car and made a hook out of the wire from a spiral notebook and proceeded to pull in some nice sized minnows... Throwing them all back of course, due to the regulations in NYS. Still fun though.
when I was about five I caught a 12lb yellow cat. We had just got back from trout fishing so I was pumped up and wanting to fish some more. I grabed my little trout rod which is about 4 ft long and went down to the pond to catch some blugill on a rooster tail next thing i know I have this big ol' catfish on my line.
I was fly fishing and my line got tangled so I fliped it back into a little creeck coming off the river that was about 2 ft wide and 1ft deep. I felt somthing pulling on my line while I was untangling it so i looked back and realized I had a nice trout on the line.
We were bobber fishing for walleyes and I hooked something. I reeled my line up until I could see my jig which had caught another line. Another 5 feet down was a smallmouth which had been pooping the line out. I felt sorry for the poor thing and released it after cutting as much line away as possible.
i once caught a line that hand a fish attached to it, decent 18 inch rainbow. Another time a rainbow kept slowly swimming by where I was fishing, i kept watching her and she kept going slower and slower finally i snapper her right out of the water with my hands. another time i was fishing @ a mountain lake watching the osprey doing it's thing, the osprey hit the water and snapped out a trout, flew over me then dropped it, does that count as catching one i did take it home and eat it.
Last month I went to pull up anchor and cut some lines tangled on it. The last one I tried to cut pulled tight. Pulled in a 19 inch northern attatched to a single bare hook. As soon as it was in the net the hook popped right out. Few minutes later she was strong enough to swim back out on her own. That was the only bite of the day!
I was at flamming george in wyoming and while trolling snaged to decent sized rambow trout.
