Fish Swallow The Hook?

Uploaded on May 20, 2009

When baitfishing for bluegills, many times they swallow the hook and get it deeply caught in their gills. If the fish does this many times it takes a long time and a pair of needle nose pliers to free the fish. I take the pointy end of a bobber and stick it down their throat about an inch, then holding the bobber and string in one hand just spin it. After a few spins the bluegill will fall off and your ready to fish again!

If you aren't keeping the fish the best thing to do is to just cut the line and let the hook rust out, because most fish that are gut hooked or gill hooked will die when you remove the hook even if they dont gush blood it is still detramental too the fish 70% of the time.
