i mainly fish for muskies in my home river...the New River,in West Virginia. and i catch most of my larger fish on Mepps Muskie Killer in line spinners..but for the hottest action I prefer live bait 6 to 10 inch creek chubs and shiners..i have also had success with soft plastics such as Super Flukes...I am a newbee to this species and so far my personal best is 37 inches but have had follows by much larger ones.. over 40.
hope I helped...tight lines
Thank you, i have some big creek chub in my creeks right now.
I don't like braided line- I go for heavier mono and fluorocarbon with a titanium leader.
Jointed rapalas are the go- to lure around here in northern Utah- especially fire tiger or perch. Most of the muskies that I have caught though, were caught while fishing big plastics for bass.
We need braid here, we have a lot of heavy weeds, and the snags are bad, so we need ho be able to stop those fish from pulling us into cover.

Another way to hook big muskies is to troll spoons. Have them run just where the prop wash starts to settle out. It's crazy watching a big muskie hit the spoon 10 feet behind the boat.
Yea, till it flys towards you and takes you full on in the chest teeth first...
I have had success with Spiderwire braid and large soft plastics
(50 or 65lb)
30lb braid is plenty for muskie. I like fire tiger plugs about 7-8 inches long.
I love using Power Pro braided line. It is very durable and I have caught two fourty plus fish on it with no problems. I usualy throw bull dawgs (muskies go crazy for soft plastics) and bucktails are always a favorite. I've tried using the double cow girl but I'm not completely sold on them. I also like using top waters such as Joe Bucher's Top Raider, or the Muskie sized Jitterbug
we use 65 pound tough line braidded for the monsters in the saint lawrance river you need it
Go to "Red October Baits" and check out the monster tube jigs made for Musky's. Thease big jigs work great. I fish'em in the Niagara river and Lake Erie.
Try the Fireline braid, it's ultra thin and super strong. Works great for pullin in big Musky's.
my favorite baits for reeling in big muskie are in fall trolling suckers, but in the summer time try a suick or some kind of crankbait.
I like 50 lb. power pro braid with a cable leader connected to a Zara Spook fished over grass beds.
