Rifles
I am in the process of building my nephew a new rifle. This rifle is a .264 Win Mag with a remington 700 action ; composite Bell and Carson stock; Hart stainless barrel with the teflon finish in matte black.
One of my pet-peeves is a dirty rifle, and I believe it would break my heart to see my nephew neglect this rifle (or any other). This leads to my question; what is the best cleaning kit on the market? In my shop I have pieces of a bunch of kits mostly bastardized to fit my needs. I have tools specifically for each firearm that I clean. I think that learning to shape these tools to clean that spot that you cannot reach with the tool as it came in the box is a learning process that I want him to acquire.
I gave rifle specifics in case anyone knows of a kit that fits these qualities more than the others. The kits that I am looking for will contain no plastic parts because I want my nephew to learn to adapt but I do not want him breaking off pieces of cleaning equipment into his rifle.
The rifle and kit will be a birthday gift. While I am sure he will be more excited about the rifle, I feel that the kit will be a way to let him know that I never expect that rifle to show up in camp with fouling or that light coat of rust that seems to be the going style with younger hunters these days.
tipton makes the best kit that i know of. and they have a carbon cleaning rod.
Do you still concider Neil Jones cleaning rods to be the best? Why not start him out with a custom set.
