Deer Hunting

Help! Looking for someone to teach me how....

Uploaded on December 07, 2009

Hi My name is Heather and I'm 38 years old. I am also married with children. I am anxious to learn how to hunt deer, elk, etc. I want to learn how to hunt without baiting. I am in southern CA and can not go outside of CA for now. I am looking for a buddy/partner not a relationship. I'm looking for someone who's willing to teach me in person, via phone or email.

I know how to shoot, have been around loaders firearms all of my life. Carried for work prior. Have torn them down and put them back together. I know what I'm doing with a firearm. But I am always willing to learn more. I've gone on many trips to the gun ranges with my dad, out into the badlands for targets. I was raised with safety.

I want to hunt, I want to bring home the venison.

I don't mind weather you are male or female. Just as long as you're around the same age. Again I am only looking for a buddy/friend.

Wish we lived closer. Try the site Women Hunters. Maybe there is someone out in your neck of the woods.
Good luck

Hi Judy, thanks I'll have to look around for that. Is it on the F&S site or a seperate site entirely?

www.womenhunters.com they are really growing in popularity and there just may be someone in your area.
Sure wish you lived closer as I have zero friends that hunt. I have met some wonderful ladies right here on this site so keep checking. Lots of stories and lots of ideas.
I wish you luck and hope you find someone that loves the sport as much as you.

Hi Judy, None of my friends hunt either. My husband is not an outdoorsman either and even camping with him is a headache. He does not like camping or fishing. I grew up camping, fishing, and shooting things with my dad. Now I take my girls camping once or twice a year. We have a trailer but it sits in the back of the property and has been there for 5 years. lol It's only been used once since we bought it brand new. So the girls and I tent camp. I didn't have a decent enough vehicle to pull the trailer till now. But I still like tent camping. We went to Tahoe over the summer and had 2 bears in our camp. One a smaller one and one a nice big blonde. She or he did not want to leave our camp till we all started blowing whistles. lol Than the last time I took the girls camping was a few months back and we had a coyote digging at our tent. Of course I had the .45 with me but didn't need to use it. I just smacked my mag on the tent door and heard it run off. Than I searched the tent for what the darn thing was after and found a dog food pellet. Longer story but I tossed the pellet out and laid awake the whole night. lol The girls slept soundly and we even caught 4 fish. This being their first fish I showed them how to gut and clean them. It made me feel so darn good watching them do it.

Thanks for the information I will go check it after getting everyone fed.

I have friends that I go camping with every year. We load up the horses and stay in the gooseneck of my trailer. Others bring their campers and we have a blast.
All of us love to fish so it is pretty cool when we catch enough for a meal....great times and I treasure every one of them.
But...my true passion is hunting and none of the girls share that passion. I truely think they would scare off what ever animal I was fixing to shoot, they just don't get it!!
We travel to Texas in February for hogs, Canada in May for spring bears and then have some great whitetail hunting right out our back door. No bucks like you see harvested in Ill or Iowa but good bucks for our area.
Bowhunting has become my obsession and most of the animals I harvest are now done with my bow.
You go girl...us girls have a rule. "with ya or without ya" and you need to throw that out there too. Life is too short for "I wish I would haves". Just do it.
Good luck

LOL Judy, Most of my friends are girlie girls. I'm a girlie girl too but I have a whole different side they don't see. I would never let someone go with me if I knew they'd scare something away. I'd probably take them to the nearest bus, train or plain, drop and go back into the woods to do what I came for. I don't have anyone to camp with so I take my girls.
I was sick for 2 years, (dr.s almost killed me) but this last year I've been really doing great. So I've been doing as much as possible with the girls. I take them out on hikes alot and up into the mountains on hikes. The last one was deeper than I expected so I'll have to start carrying when I go now just incase. I don't need any more bear or coyote surprises with the girls with me. Hubby said they fine 100k for bears if your life is not in danger. Now I don't know how true that is but I'm going to have to find out lol.
I heard coyotes are coming out during the day and attacking and dragging off people now. Too many incroching on their land.
And I'm one of those WITH YA girls lol

Moishe Thanks for the luck.

I will throw out sometihng else.... attend a BOW event in your area. It is a great program, and you will meet lots of ladies that want to go with you, and in the event they teach lots of great skills. Here in WY they do firearms, fishing, hunting, canoes, hunters ed, outdoor survival.... and each state does differnt things for thier area. RMEF is good, but National Turkey Wildlife Fereration has an entire "women in the outdoors" group that you might find hunters with. Left SoCal 10 years ago after I finished school, with no plans to return. But, I am here to help if I can!

Happy New Year!
Thanks ladies. Jacee, I will have to start looking around now that the holidays are over. I've written down all you've given me.
I was ready to leave CA 20 years ago. Just haven't been able to yet. Hubby retires in 2 and the twins grad. in 3 1/2 and when they do I'm leaving. Been looking at property everywhere in the center, AR, MO, TN. I want a cool climate with tons and tons of trees and property lol.

Thanks again
Heather

Thanks Big O! Yeah my heart&Soul belong in the woods. And I can't wait. I'll take the necesities and my crafts. The rest I could care less about. Sell it off or give it away to the salvation army or the local church. They can use it, give it away or sell it to raise money for the church. I'm at that point in my life where material things don't matter much anymore. It's getting back to nature and teaching my kids what I can that matters most.
